Encore une chanson italienne adaptée en français pour Rina Ketty. Depuis 1938, avec ses énormes succès "J'attendrai" et "Sombreros et Mantilles", elle faisait partie des chanteuses les plus populaires de France. C'est sans doute son dernier disque enregistré avant 1946.
Dans la vidéo, c'est d'abord des images en couleur de la défense passive pour les civils, avec les masques à gaz. Puis, c'est l'Exode, d'abord des Belges et des Hollandais, puis des Français du Nord, devant l'avance des troupes allemandes, en mai-juin 1940. Enfin, des colonnes de prisonniers français vont vers l'Allemagne, après l'armistice du 25 juin 1940.

Another Italian song adapted in French for Rina Ketty. Since 1938, with its enormous successes " J'attendrai" and "Sombreroes et Mantilles", she was one of the most popular singers in France. It's doubtless her last recording before 1946.
In the video, it's at first images in color of the civil defence for the civilians, with gas masks. Then, it's "l'Exode" at first Belgians and Dutch people, then North French people, in front of the advance of the German troops, in May-June, 1940. Finally, columns of French prisoners go towards Germany, after the armistice of June 25th, 1940.

Selon Wikipedia, Claude May est décédée le vendredi 3 juillet 2009, quelques jours avant son 96ème anniversaire. Elle était née avant la Première Guerre Mondiale, dans la banlieue parisienne, à Le Raincy. Elle débuta sa carrière au début des années 1930. Son premier film," Simone est comme ça", sort en 1932. En 1933, elle est élue Miss Palm Beach à Cannes. Elle devient célèbre à partir du milieu des années 1930. Elle joue surtout dans les adaptations au cinéma des opérettes à succès. En 1936, c'est "Toi c'est moi", avec Pills & Tabet. En 1937, c'est "Ignace" avec Fernandel et Andrex, quelle retrouvera l'année suivante pour "Barnabé". Elle joue toujours le rôle de la jeune fille ingénue, et chante toujours des chansons romantiques, voire niaises. Elle joue également au côté de Réda Caire dans le film "Prince de mon coeur" en 1937, et "Le Roi des galéjeurs", avec Alibert, en 1940, son dernier succès. Elle reprend sa carrière après la guerre, mais sans retrouver le succès. Elle tourne "Don Juan", son dernier film, en 1956. Entre 1980 et 1990, elle devient scénariste pour plusieurs téléfilms et séries télévisées. Elle disparaît le 3 juillet 2009, à 95 ans.

According to Wikipedia, Claude May died on Friday, July 3rd, 2009, some days before his 96th birthday. She was born before the First World war, in the Parisian suburb, in Le Raincy. She began her career in early 1930s. In 1933, she was Miss Palm Beach in Cannes. She became famous in the mid1930s. She played especially in the movie's adaptations of successfuls operettas. In 1936, it's in " Toi c'est moi ", with Pills and Tabet. In 1937, it's "Ignace" with Fernandel and Andrex, which will find the next year for "Barnabé". She always played the role of the ingenue girl, and always sang romantic songs, even silly. She also played with Réda Caire in the 1937's movie " Prince de mon coeur", and in " Le Roi des galéjeurs ", with Alibert, in 1940, her last success. She took back her career after the war, but without finding the success. She was in "DonJuan", her last movie, in 1956. Between 1980 and 1990, she becane a scriptwriter for several TVfilm and series. She dead in July 2009, at 95.

This is a great version of Irving Berlin's "When they ask about you" performed by Bobby Naret and featuring Belgian jazz singer Martha Love. Bobby Naret (born 1914) was a clarinet and saxophone player. He performed with his own bands as well as in the Fud Candrix Orchestra. Later on he also conducted the orchestra of the "Ancienne Belgique" theatre.

Martha Love started recording during the Second World War, when she made several recordings with Eddie Tower (Emile Deltour) and his orchestra. She recorded several tracks with Bobby Naret in 1944/45 (best known : "Besame Mucho /Kiss me" and "Amor Amor"). Apparently a talented and popular singer it is almost impossible to find more information these days... so feel free to provide information on her.

The video's theme is the end of the Second World War and the return to civilian life.
