Ballista vs. Stove cMasterCr... - 10,528 views - 10 months ago
This is our interpretation of the ballista, an ancient siege weapon used by the Greeks and Romans. Essentially, it is a huge crossbow that hurls 4 foot projectiles up to about 100 yards. While the ancient civilizations may have used torsion springs made of wound rope, we opted for a more modern approach consisting of an old leaf spring from a junkyard. This spring was attached to the end of a 4" by 6" stock and strung with steel cable. This was then drawn back by means of a hand cranked come-along winch. There are 3 hand crafted projectiles we created; one made of a wooden post with a 3 inch metal point at the tip, one of a copper tube plugged at the end with a deadly railroad spike, and the last a cumbersome iron tube with a huge bolt attached which acts as a bludgeon, lovingly called "The Demolisher". The device is fired by means of a crowbar bolted to a piece of wood which then pops up the steel cable from behind a catch in the stock. All in all, this is a simple device, but its destructive capabilities speak for themselves. The victim in this firing was a sad old scrap stove that was just asking to be put out of its misery. We proceeded to destroy the stove by pummeling it with our copper spike projectile and the Demolisher. We kept the stove close to the ballista in order to provide maximum destruction and obliteration. Hope you enjoy the wreckage.

50 ping pong ball smoke bomb with pull pin cMasterCr... - 43,925 views - 1 year ago
This smoke bomb is made from 50 chopped up ping pong balls. I had bought 144 ping pong balls off of ebay for a good price. I stuffed the chopped up balls into a spray painted soda can. I made the pull pin igniter with a similar design to the one found in this video http://www.broadcastyoutube.co m/watch?v=gFA4yItxv6M&feature= relatedhttp://www.broadcastyou tube.com/watch?v=gFA4yItxv6M&f eature=related
When I pulled the pin, the matches lit but they did not light the fuse.
It is not as good as a sugar and saltpeter smoke gernade but it works.

Homemade Gauss Gun cMasterCr... - 6,940 views - 1 year ago
This gauss gun is powered by a 660v, 670μf capacitor bank. The capacitor bank consists of 22 capacitors that came from disposable cameras. The coil was made from 14gage wire, 102 turns total, 6 layers, and 17 turns on each layer. I calculated the inductance of the coil to be about 196µH. I cut a piece of nail for the projectile and the barrel is a straw. The projectile weighs 4.18g and is 3cm long. There is 1mm between the inside of the coil and the outside of the projectile. I used 6 diodes (three parallel sets of two diodes in series, total surge rating of 1000v, 900amps) in anti-parallel with the capacitor bank, to protect the capacitors from reverse charging. During the firings, I killed four diodes and welded open two switches. The switch that I am using now welds shut every now and then, but because of the switch design, you can break the weld by forcing the switch into the off position.
I calculated the velocity of the projectile to be about 25m/sec. To do this, I shot the gauss gun at a piece of cardboard 5.5m away. Using the hole in the cardboard, I calculated the drop of the projectile, and then the velocity. The gun will make holes in soda cans. One of my friends wanted me to shoot the gauss gun at him to see what it would do. I decided it would be better to shoot it at a thawed chicken instead (:

An anonymous guy demonstrates some champion level foosball techniques.
Way better than that other foosball vid that keeps getting posted here over and over again.
