Was the citation blank when it was presented to you?

It would seem that if it wasn't blank; you would have been able to have read the specific charge/speed alleged. Further, the officer could have simply answered your questions re how fast he alleges you were "speeding".

If it was blank; surely you could not have been expected to sign; and everything that followed would be delegitimized. (Or will they have filled it in in the interim?)

Please don't settle this out of court for a pittance; force a trial. Make a jury award you a ton of money and then use that money to run for office. Become that cops boss.

Some of the posts on the local news station's site refer to the cop as having abused local people and as having attitude problems; so there's a pattern there. Also, there are references to that being a known local speed trap.

BE POLITE. State your objection and expectations. I for example just traveled through Utah and will not do so again until I know this officer is OUT of uniform and being retrained if trainable, and DEEP apologies have been made to the family.

Now all you need is to choose which lawyer to help you sue this guy. I'm sure you'll be getting tons of offers from lawyers willing to work the case for free just for the media attention it will bring them.

I'd also like someone to track this guy down and post a video of him getting tasered, in the face if you can.

That was a classic display of power corrupting absolutely. Thanks for posting that video, so we can all see this ego-maniac assulting the common man. Please take him to the cleaners and make an example of him. Show 'em that we won't be intimidated by those who are supposed to be protecting us.

I can tell you are a reasonable and good man Mr. Massey. Thank you for helping to expose the crooks who hide behind badges. Dont give up the good fight. As for that cop, he is the type of person that should be taken off of OUR streets. I pity anyone who has to deal with him, you handled it beautifully sir.

You did the right thing, Mr. Massey. Don't listen to anyone here who tells you otherwise. I applaud you for standing up for yourself and for your rights as a citizen of this country. The police need to learn they are here to protect and serve people like you and I, not to harass and intimidate.

I emailed a harshly worded letter to the UHP and posted a copy on my blog at kingforaday dot info.

I just drove through Utah parks, Arches-Zion-Bryce Spectacular and was generally VERY impressed with the Utah Infrastructure including park police and services. THAT IS a rogue cop. I think the strategy of CALLING is good and if you want to get Utah's attention, call their TOURISM bureau's, big hotels, parks, governor etc. Tourism is the only reason most of us would drive through Utah. Somebody else can perhaps gather these numbers and post here and on the Youtube. Sorry we all had this experience.
