About Me:
Gibson Les Paul Custom Comes Alive!
Or, what the Guitar sound from a Live LP set off !!!.
This is a story stretching over 25 years of sore fingers, countless music theory and practice hours in order to find an explanation for Peter Frampton's specific guitar sound.
1984 "Comes Alive!" playing
A Frampton fan since 1976, I took up studying the electric guitar 8 years later in order to understand why this live LP spelled magic for me. (And still does!)
1994, 10 years playing "Alive"
It took me one year to realize my own CD. The title Alive reveals whose follower I am musically!
1995 1st "The special year"
I hardly had the first copy of my own CD in hand when Peter Frampton himself announced the title "You" off his new album "Frampton Comes Alive 2" on the radio station SWF3 (Now SWR3, D-Baden-Baden).
1995, 2nd "Gibson Les Paul, the Frampton model"
At this time, I toyed with the idea of buying a Gibson guitar. Sure, it had to be his famous model, but, no one knew if he played a standard or modified version.
1995, 3rd "Comes Alive 2"
I like to think that I was the first one get the new release after having beleaguered all Swiss CD-Importers. On the CD's cover there was a note that a concert was to take place on November 7, 1995 in the Volkshaus, Zurich.
The camera's lens in the left, the casing in the right trouser pocket, I smuggled my camera into the building. Nineteen years I had been waiting for this moment to come.
9:15 pm, the lights dimmed out and from the PA system came a slide intro. Suddenly, Peter Frampton himself stood two meters in front of me in the violet spot lights. With his guitar intro he immediately had 1000 people spellbound. The first title he played was the first one off his CD, "Day in the sun". This was followed by "Lying."
The guitar technician handed him his Les Paul custom (only later, I got to know it was a modified one) and he started with "Lines on My Face." This was the magic moment: Peter Frampton and his black Les Paul.
One week later, the pictures I had taken assisted in changing my newly bought Gibson Les Paul. I found that the Gibson is more voluminous in sound than the Fender guitar played so far. The Les Paul is an extraordinary instrument, but to get this indescribable sound it needs a guitarist with the name of Peter Frampton!
1998:
Zum 2. male erlebte ich Peter Frampton "Alive", er spielte als Mitglied in Ringo's All Star Band am "Heitere Open Air" in Zofingen-Switzerland
1999:
