When Dr. Penny Patterson began teaching Koko the lowland gorilla sign language, it soon became apparent the good Doctor had never heard the Blues before. Koko's huge Gorilla hands had been trying to shape the language of guitar music for years, but Dr Patterson couldn't understand her shaggy Play mate.
Koko had been trying to sign 'I'm a Piedmont Blues playin' Gorilla, please let me go' but she couldn't make her handler understand even her simplest gestures. One day I dropped off my old Gibson J-45 at her cage and Koko immediately began playing Police dog blues!

Now Dr Patterson can't get enough of it!
Whenever Koko holds up her left & right hand Dr Patterson knows she wants her hawkbill knife and the open tuned guitar.
