Keeping track video game releases isn’t as easy as it once was — the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they’re spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile). Well, I’m here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I’ll rattle off five games I think you should check out.

Bad boys, bad boys, whatchya gonna do? Whatchya gonna do when they transform into an approximation of a wolf and come for you? That’s the premise of Wolfcop, in which a cop stumbles upon a ritual in progress and is transformed into a werewolf. I saw Wolfcop drinking a silver bullet at Trader Vic’s. His hair was perfect.

For those unaware, Jimmy Fallon is rolling out his annual Video Games Week this week, which is essentially every major publisher and platform getting one show to show off their wares. First up, last night, was Microsoft. What’d we see? Honestly, the spot itself felt a bit stiff, and a lot like an infomercial. The opening in particular, as we get walked through the different parts of the system, got a little QVC, especially since Fallon has to pretend like he doesn’t know what all of this stuf...

The hard truth of the film industry is that as prices go up, attendance drops. This puts movies like World War Z in a fairly tough place: It has cost, depending on who you ask, anywhere from $200 to a whopping $400 million. The studio is trying to manage bad buzz and get butts in seats by any means necessary.

Hey, so Superman made a lot of money last weekend. And the movie is doing pretty well. Still, we’re pretty sure Warner Bros. big summer hit is going to be Pacific Rim, mostly because they keep putting out featurettes like this. Assuming that somehow we’re not all hyped up to see a movie about gigantic monsters and robots beating the crap out of each other, Warner Bros.

Peter Jackson released numerous production blogs for An Unexpected Journey, and now the first production blog for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug follows after the first trailer. The Desolation of Smaug production blog #1 focuses on how awesome the sets and landscape in New Zealand are. Okay, we get it. You guys got to go on an awesome vacation in freaking New Zealand while our affordable vacation plans consisted of huffing paint until we went to a world of pure imagination.

Vin Diesel announced via his endearingly looney Facebook page that Riddick is coming to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. As part of the advertising push, we’ve got a new poster and a short international trailer with French subtitles. (Full trailer here.) Riddick is the third installment in Diesel’s passion project series. It’s been at least four years in the making.

Trying to prevent frustration is a good thing. This week, when I’ve had a moment, I’ve been playing Remember Me, and while it’s a good game, there are several sequences featuring instant death if you screw up once. But developers are, by and large, learning that there are ways to make a game challenging without making it annoying.

We took a challenge upon ourselves; to try and find the GIFs that sum up the biggest games at E3 in one animated image. So, from mutants getting shotgunned in the face to zombies getting chopped in half to a cyborg ninja glorying in a shower of panties, here are some of our favorite moments from E3.

MATT DAMON. “In five day’s time, you will die. Thank you for your service.” That’s what a robot informs Matt Damon in this new, extended trailer for Elysium. His character is an ex-car thief who is irradiated in a workplace accident. Unfortunately he lives on Earth in the year 2154, which has been abandoned by the rich who live on an idyllic space station named Elysium.

As we all know, a new Batman game is coming this October. What we didn’t know is what the franchise would look like without Rocksteady at the helm. The short answer? A lot like the last two games! Here’s the full video, although we’ve taken the liberty of skipping to the part you care about if you’re not into bald dudes with accents.

Oh, did you hear that there’s a new Superman movie called Man of Steel out? And, as it turns out, it’s not bad. As Vince at Filmdrunk put it, “Man of Steel strikes me as both a shining example of what a comic book movie can be, and a perfect reason of why a lot of people wish the talent pool comic book movies attract could be applied to something less comic booky.” So there.

Man Of Steel opens tomorrow (you can read Vince’s review here), so Warner is dropping the very last promotional materials. The first video below is a clip of Russell Crowe as Jor-El beating up his kidnappers, who are probably Kryptonian Nazis. To quote commenter TooManyPizza, “Classic Russell Crowe El, loves fightin round the worlds.” We also wanted to point out this short little video of Michael Shannon talking to Joelle Garguilo on the Man Of Steel red carpet.

Hey guys, Axe Cop will soon have his very own TV show! It’s part of the ANIMATION DOMINATION HIGH-DEF late night block premiering Saturday, July 27th 11/10c on FOX. But wait, maybe you’re not up to speed on AXE COP? That’s okay — there are a lot of things on the Internet, sometimes you miss something awesome.

Conan O’Brien played and reviewed DC Comics fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us with Aaron Bleyaert for another “Clueless Gamer” segment on Conan. In previous episodes, he’s reviewed Skyrim, Minecraft, Halo 4, Resident Evil, Just Dance 4, Hitman: Absolution, and he even perved out on Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.

“What happens if you replace characters in famous movie scenes with Batman?” asks Pistol Shrimps, who then answer their own question with two parody mashup videos in their “Batman In Classic Movie Scenes” series. They inserted a foul-mouthed, gravelly-voiced Batman into iconic scenes from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Home Alone, Casablanca, When Harry Met Sally, There’s Something About Mary, Dirty Dancing, and more.

The Wolverine makes his best “Grumpy Cat” face. An international trailer for The Wolverine is out, and it includes plenty of new footage of Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova) doing her creepy Viper thing with the acidy spit and the molting skin with the ripping off of her own face and there goes my appetite. Speaking of Viper being creepy, The Shiznit was inspired to make this parody of those awful “one simple trick” banner ads.

Hey, remember when, every August, there’d be an SF/horror movie in theaters? For about a decade, you could always count on a movie like Event Horizon, rated R, messy, and set in space. Call them Children of Alien, and while many were terrible, it’s hard not to have an affection for them. Anyway, one of the latest examples of the form just debuted a new trailer, and promises to be entertaining regardless of quality.

The first trailer has arrived for Bong Joon-ho’s English debut Snowpiercer. Besides the aforementioned Chris Evans with an axe, the movie also features Tilda Swinton as a cult of personality style villain who tells the poor to “Keep your place” and shouts 1984-esque lines like, “The engine is sacred and Wilford is divine.” I mean, his diabetic testing supplies are functional, but divine?

Ubisoft is gearing up their third self-produced video game adaption. In the past, they let Hollywood run with their properties to disastrous results like 2010′s Prince Of Persia. Now Ubisoft is packaging the films themselves and shopping them to studios. They wanted to “maintain creative control” and “respect the DNA” of their games, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, the CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

“Hello. Yes, this is dog. No, I can’t save your movie.” The early reviews for World War Z aren’t as bad as we expected considering the less-than-glowing Vanity Fair article which suggests the movie has to gross $400 million just to break even. There were also rumors Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster weren’t even speaking during extensive reshoots.

Ubisoft bought the rights to South Park: The Stick of Truth when THQ declared bankruptcy in January. We were worried the Obsidian-developed RPG might not get finished after it was delayed a year and THQ crumbled. Now the E3 trailer pokes fun at their own setbacks by promising the game will come “this holiday season, or some holiday season, hopefully kind of soon.

Warner just released the first trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second of three movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and the 125 pages of The Appendices. Yesterday, they released the new Desolation of Smaug poster to try to trick us into writing a separate post about it. Tricksy tricksy Hobbitses.

Ubisoft unveiled two long trailers for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag at E3. They show off the early 1700s Caribbean pirate life of Captain Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Conner Kenway of Assassin’s Creed III. The first trailer is a purely CG cinematic trailer in which Kenway initiates a bar brawl with a nod before taking the battle to the sea, set to the song “Brennisteinn” by Sigur Rós.

In the most obvious news of the day, Warner is officially fast-tracking a sequel to Man Of Steel. Director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer are already signed for a sequel. Deadline says Goyer’s original deal with Warner is to write two Man Of Steel films and a Justice League script which includes Superman. That was news to us.

The good news: The PlayStation 4 looks a lot like the PlayStation 2, it’ll be out “this holiday season” and it’ll cost $399. The bad news: You’re getting a PlayStation Plus account if you want online multiplayer. Jokes aside, Sony’s approach to the PlayStation brand is tellingly far different. To give you an idea of the tone, here’s Sony sticking it to their competition: The Microsoft show focused largely on the Xbox One; Sony discussed the PS3 and Vita as well as the PS4.

Well today was quite the big techie day as we got all sorts of Apple revelations, XBox news at E3 and now Playstation 4 finally made its reveal. The good folks at Gamma Squad will be giving us the in-depth breakdown tomorrow, but for now we can tell you one thing for sure: the people over at Microsoft are sitting in puddles of tears.

In the newest clip from Man Of Steel, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and General Zod (Michael Shannon) have a confrontation over Zod’s plan to overthrow Krypton’s government to “sever the degenerative bloodlines that led us to this state.” Man, I hate Kryptonian Nazis. Though to be fair, the dethroned members of the Kryptonian Council look like this: I kind of want to throw that guy on the ground, too, just to hear his hat jingle like a birdcage full of slinkies rolling down a hill.

It’s the Friday before E-3, and everybody’s looking for a little free publicity. Hence, Dying Light and Thief both have gorgeous trailers. Of course, there’s no gameplay footage, but they’re still pretty neat.

The latest Wolfenstein game takes place in a world where the Nazis won man. So, what happens to the world under Nazi rule? Well, according to the latest Wolfenstein: The New Order trailer, things don’t change all that much — people still kiss nurses in Times Square after the war, mankind goes to the moon, a famous photograph of four guys crossing Abbey Road still exists — the difference is the people doing all these things are now Nazis in full military regalia!

Disney’s purchase of Marvel has had all sorts of odd and amusing side effects. For example, Marvel now handles the publication and distribution of Disney Princess magazines. But it was really only a matter of time before Marvel started crossing over into other Disney franchises… including, apparently, a Phineas and Ferb called Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel.

Never threaten that woman. Just… just trust us. Man Of Steel opens next week (final trailer here), so the principal actors are making the rounds on chat shows, bringing new clips with them. Now two of those clips are embedded below. In the first clip, Zod arrives at the Kent farm to intimidate Superman’s mother.

Sadly it seems as though Konami’s patented hilariously incompetent live E3 presentations may permanently be a thing of the past. This year the publisher took a page from Nintendo’s book and just put out a recorded Nintendo Direct-like video hyping the games they’ll be demoing on the E3 show floor. Konami’s pre-recorded E3 show mostly focused on two things — Kiefer Sutherland starring in the new Metal Gear game (as Dan already covered) and a ridiculously long (as in over six minutes), over the...

According to the new horror-thriller The Purge the United States in 2022 has become a country almost devoid of crime thanks to an annual 12-hour period of time where anything goes without punishment, including murder and bestiality. Most especially bestiality. And while that’s all well and good, 2022 isn’t that far off and there must have been some growing pains in those first years, right?

The final trailer for Man Of Steel is out for the movie opening next Friday. It’s a dark yet hopeful trailer set to a new piece of composer Hans Zimmer’s excellent score. This newest Man Of Steel trailer is sponsored by Nokia. Speaking of which, Man Of Steel has already grossed $170 million and received millions more in free advertising spots thanks to its 98 corporate sponsors, says THR.

Volition and Deep Silver have released the red band E3 trailer for Saints Row IV. You play as the President of the United States trapped inside a simulation where you have ridiculous superpowers, a dubstep gun, and a penchant for kicking people in the balls, and we wouldn’t have our Saints Row any other way.

Amazon has just revealed an entire segment of its games store dedicated to independent games. And, Amazon being Amazon, it’s launching it with deals, and lots of them. Here are five of the best. The God of Thunder is making sure he doesn’t become the God of Thunderthighs with the hot new fitness craze sweeping the nation: Prancercise. We were introduced to Prancercise: The Art of Physical and Spiritual Excellence by Joanna Rohrback last week when her hilariously odd video went viral and somehow wasn’t a Tim and Eric sketch.

Hey Don, I get why you’re proud, but could you maybe not thrust your crotch at me? We’ve already posted Michelangelo and Raphael themed trailers for the upcoming, (kind of strange looking) brawler TMNT: Out of the Shadows, and now here’s one that shows off Donatello’s ass-kicking abilities. Donatello’s moveset doesn’t seem to be quite a badass as Raph’s, but that’s to be expected — being the badass of the team is kind of Raph’s thing.

A couple days ago Square-Enix teased that a new game in the Deus Ex series entitled Deus Ex: The Fall would be announced today. They didn’t lie! Unfortunately it turns out Deus Ex: The Fall is going to be a 7-dollar iPhone and iPad game. I suppose it’s not fair to totally dismiss the title because it’s a mobile game — maybe it’ll be a great 7-dollar iPhone game!

Just two days after we found this thirteen-minute featurette and huge batch of photos from Man Of Steel, Warner has released two great clips and another brief TV spot. The first clip features Lois Lane and Superman (played by Amy Adams and Henry Cavill) meeting for the first time. They’re flirting so much the scene should have gone like this: The second clip premiered on Ellen yesterday and features Laurence Fishburne as The Daily Planet’s Editor-in-Chief Perry White.

So, DuckTales is getting an HD remake! Hooray! But wait, how close is the “remastered” edition going to be to the NES classic? Developer WayForward has said they’re going to be modernizing the game for new players — just how far are they going? Well, IGN put together a helpful video that compares the original and remastered versions of the game’s Amazon level side-by-side, and it seems as though WayForward is keeping mostly faithful to the level design of the NES game.

In the first decent story an ad agency has ever been associated with (sorry, Sterling Cooper Dog Pineapple Weezer Logo Baba Booey Baba Booey & Associates), JWT Brazil teamed up with A.C. Camargo Cancer Center and Warner Bros. to transform intravenous bags for children with cancer into “Superformula.” The bags are now covered with Justice League superhero logos to, in the words of Advertising Weekly, “help children with cancer better understand their treatment and be less frightened by chemoth...

This involves numerous puns and lens flares with a “Star Trek Slow Jam” about Vulcans banging.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a surprisingly good game courtesy of Eidos Montreal, one that offered a strong mix of gameplay choices. So it’s good news that a new one is on the way. Especially with the tantalizing title of Deus Ex: The Fall. Eidos basically stopped just short of saying “Yeah, we’re totally showing the new one off at E3″: Are YOU ready for The Fall?
