Young people across Lancashire created events and took up challenges as part of the 360° Challenge this year. From 3rd to 8th August, 12 participatory events, at 12 different community centres, in 12 different Lancashire districts brought together and celebrated sports and arts, inspired by the theme of 360°, wheels, circles and the connections of the Olympic rings. Linking all the events was the inspirational Big 360° Cycle Ride. Sixteen young people plus support cycled the near circumference of Lancashire, stopping off at youth centres along the way to see the planned Olympic 360° themed events taking place. The 360 Challenge was produced in partnership between Blaze, Lancashire Young People's Service and The Dukes. facebook.com/my360challenge twitter #360challenge
Art meets sport as teams of players compete in The Big Game. Members of Sparks and Fusion 1318 youth theatre, with help from artist Tom Russotti from the Institute of Aesthletics, New York, created new games, and lots of drama, which unfolded on and off the sports ground, culminating in a day-long nonsensical spectacle of madness and mayhem. The Big Game 2011 was officially part of the Olympic Open Weekend but will not go down in sporting history.
