America's Late Breaking News: Aretha's Hat

I think the reason why America is trippin' over the hat (massive amounts of doctored photos being uploaded to the web featuring regular people with "the hat", news articles about "the hat") is because a lot of America is not immune to the site of big black church ladies in their natural garb. And yes, I said "Big Black Church Ladies", because for the past 10 years, while living in the South, that is what I have become accustomed to. That is why I have to take a moment to step back and say "Johnathan, just remember, the rest of America doesn't know what you (and the people around you) know." But, My God! Is it me, or are they blowing it way out of proportion? I know that somewhere on some NBC prime time hokey pokey show, someone has mocked the black church. So why the sudden shock over "Aretha's Bold Fashion Statement"? Do these people simply know nothing about traditional black culture in the church? Goodness. This reminds me of a time when I was in high school. There was this one particular nerdy guy (not myself) who was always late (again, not myself) when it came to catching the punch line to jokes, but once he did get it, he would pester the rest of class about it (sometimes days later). I just feel that America is so far behind. Thank God we have elected this historic president. Finally we are seeing another side of our country.... though the reactions are a bit childish. (less info)
