Big O Records was formed in 2005 by Jim Alfredson and Greg Nagy as a vehicle to release organissimo's second disc, "This Is The Place". That CD hit in the Top 15 in jazz radio airplay (unprecedented for an independent release) and the Top 10 in college radio. It also won a WYCE Jammie Award for Best Album, was nominated for a Detroit Music Award, and was included on many radio, internet, and magazine Best of 2005 lists.

In 2006, Big O Records released the first Root Doctor CD "Been A Long Time Coming". That record also did very well on radio and won a WYCE Jammie Award for Best Blues Album.

In 2007, Big O released a second Root Doctor CD, "Change Our Ways", which also won a WYCE for Best Blues album, had substantial radio airplay, and was nominated for a Blues Music Award (formerly the WC Handy Awards) by the Blues Foundation.
