Pippin AKA Peppina was a street cat I rescued in 1989 in Philadelphia. She moved to San Francisco with me in 1991. She never quite adjusted to domestication. That's putting it mildly. Friends called her "the cat from hell." She was a gentle loving kitty to me, but to anyone else who got in her way, forget it. There goes a limb. In this sequence, a friend tries to reach out to her, but with disastrous results. Bet you never saw a cat whack like that. Pippin died in early February 2004. But her legend lives on!

October song by Tommi Avicolli Mecca c 1992
I'm going where the birds go gonna follow the river I'm flying past the morning and I won't be back again
doesn't matter that I love you there's nothing you can say to keep me from the journey that I have to take today
I'm going where the sun goes setting course with the stars seems I'm flying like souls do when they don't come back again
I'm going where the birds go when the sun's getting thin I'm flying past the morning and I won't come back again
I won't be back again

c'mon by Tommi Avicolli Mecca c 1992
c'mon and hold me like you'll never let me go I need you badly it's never been so gray I'm not asking for forever I'm just asking for tonight
c'mon and love me like you'll never stop to breathe I need you closer than a man can ever be I'm just looking for a moment to try and save my life
times like this I'm only five again searching for a tender word to let me know you care

NO FOOD TODAY by Tommi Avicolli Mecca c 2008
sorry we got no food today/ you best be on your way theres no truck headed here/ its the same old story everywhere
I know you got some kids to feed/ everyones so much in need never seen so much sorrow/ aint gonna go away tomorrow
BREAK: whats the matter with this old land/ that nobody understands/ empty stomachs there should be a ban
sorry we got no meals for free/ not the way it used to be food there was by the crate/ now the hungry oh they have to wait
maybe someday they will know/ that we suffered so much woe just to keep our hunger sated/ in the economy they created
SILENT NIGHT new lyrics by Tommi Avicolli Mecca
Silent night, holy night all is calm, all is bright round young homeless mother and child hungry infant so tender and mild sleep on Americas streets sleep on Americas streets
Silent night, holy night cops drag poor out of sight fine them for asking for change on the street just a few pennies for something to eat jails are our homes for the poor jails are our homes for the poor
Silent night, holy night compassion reigns what is this light people are there to give food to the poor opening hearts to the ones who need more all for one night of the year only one night of the year
Silent night, holy night one one stirs, ground is white snow is falling on the city so clean on the mother and child who are ever so lean dead on Americas streets dead on Americas streets

The peaceniks look at Columbus Day from the perspective of progressive Italian/Americans who are not cool with the conquistador's legacy. He didn't discover America, it was already discovered by millions of indigenous peoples. He sailed for Spain, not Italy (which wasn't even a country at the time). Etc. When Italians came here to flee poverty in the south of Italy (and 1500 years of colonialism), there were many radicals and anarchists among them, including Sacco and Vanzetti. Italian women organized in the garment industry and helped get rid of sweatshops. For us, it's a prouder legacy than Columbus.
The band is: Tommi Avicolli Mecca, guitar/vocals Diana Hartman: vocals John Radogno: guitar
video recording by Alyse Ceirante
DO WOPPING WOPS by Tommi Avicolli Mecca c 2007
were the do wopping wops and we gotta lotta things to say (do wopping do do wopping)
the do wopping wops we're gonna dump columbus today (do wopping, etc.)
before you get agita listen to what we convey
were tired of hearing columbus is our hero too he didnt represent us back in 1492 he stole all that land and he killed indians its true
CHO: I'd rather know the names of the radicals who came labor leaders anarchists give a cheer for the laundry list
if we wanna celebrate a day of italian pride we dont need columbus we gotta lot on our side dont be a part of the legacy of genocide
for 1500 years we labored under the sun everybodys prize we were living just under the gun so don't go asking us to honor the conquering one
