Jo Ann Smith plays autoharp in ways that will forever change your thinking about this instrument and its role in traditional music. Her broad range of styles, exquisite arrangements and drop-dead technical abilities are a delight to experience. You'll never see an autoharp the same way again.
About Me: Jo Ann is the 1999 International (Winfield) Autoharp Champion. She also holds the 2003 Mountain Laurel Autoharp Championship title.

In addition to regular performances at local venues and regional festivals, Jo Ann has performed on the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour in Lexington, KY.

Jo Ann has one CD, "Rhythm of the Rain", released June 2004. A collection of 15 traditional tunes and songs featuring autoharp, guitar, mandolin and bass.

The first cut from this album, "Amazing Grace", was included in volume 20 of the Acoustic Rainbow Radio Sampler and is receiving airplay both in the US and abroad.

"Rhythm of the Rain" was also listed as one of the top 70 albums for the month of February, 2005 on the FolkDJ-L website.

Thank Goodness!! A great friend of mine who is actually a professional story teller has just given me an autoharp because I just love to watch her play during her story telling programs. However, now she is moving out of town only a week after giving it to me. So, now I have to find other means of learning to play it. Please if you would keep doing tutorials on the basics I just can't tell you how deeply I would enjoy and appreciate it. I am very eager to learn and you are just marvelous at it.

I love your tutorials and videos! I was thinking of getting an audioharp but how do you tune these instruments?
If you are to tune all of those many strings separately I guess that would be a bit intimidating for me...

I have been learning and playing the autoharp the last three years. I heard of you through the cyberpluckrs. your videos have been helpful and good entertainment. The experience with the auto harp has been a thrill to me as for years I have wished to play somthing and also accompany myself . This old retired man is grateful for this limited skill.
