This is the full guitar battle scene near the end of the movie Crossroads, from 1986.
Synopsis: The legend is that an old bluesman found these crossroads somewhere in or around Mississippi in the early part of the 20th century. This is where he met the Devil. He offered him money, in exchange for amazing musical skills. The Devil demanded his soul for such a high price. He accepted, and went on to become a famous blues singer. It was said that his final album, which was released before he died, consisted of a certain number of songs, however, one song was lost and never released. Few knew of the song, but no one had it.
Eugene hears of this legend and sets out on a mission to find the song. He is a young man, a prodigy. He believes if he were to find the song, he could do it justice with his skill and love for blues music. However, the one man he thinks would know how to play the song doesn't believe he could do justice to such a remarkable piece of music. But, Willie makes Eugene a deal. He will teach him the lost song, which he supposedly learned while the legendary bluesman constructed it with him, if he helps him escape his minimum security holding house and get him back home. Without hesitation, the two are on their journey, one to make it back home for his last days in life, the other to find a song written by a legend, but has never been heard.
Along the trip, Eugene discovers that it wasn't only this legendary bluesman who made a deal with the devil, but Willie sought musical fame as well as a young, struggling guitarist. Coming face to face with him, the devil wants to collect. Eugene unwittingly makes his own deal, apparently not believing this myth and satan talk, the devil gets his soul if he has a guitar player who can outplay him. His deal is accepted, and now to save Willies, and his own, soul, Eugene must complete a difficult task.
This is the scene where Eugene needs to battle another poor soul who has fallen victim to the devil. This man, played by real legendary guitarist Steve Vai, plays his own guitar parts in the scene, and he also plays Ralf Macchio's (Eugene) parts as well. Eugene is put to the test and must prove his worth and all he has learned from Willie on this journey. This is one of the best musical scenes in rock cinematic history.
The battle scene is set to a funeral theme. For good reason. It's called "Cuttin' Heads." The loser loses his soul. Enjoy the video.
