The Arlington Police Department is actively searching for the man responsible for the death of Leona Faye Swafford, 83 of Arlington, after a carjacking and kidnapping this morning. A more complete description is now available after detectives have conducted witness interviews. The information provided also made it possible to create a composite sketch of the suspect, which is included in this news release. An updated suspect description has the suspect as a black man in his late 20s to late 30s, between 5'11" to 6' tall with short hair possibly styled in a half-inch afro. He has a muscular build, dark skin, and little to no facial hair. The suspect was last seen wearing a light-colored shirt and blue jeans.

At about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, Arlington Police Officers responded to a call in the 400 block of Sussex. A witness described seeing his neighbor pull into her driveway and a man approach her vehicle. The witness saw the man assaulting his neighbor and went to assist. He and the suspect struggled, but the suspect was able to get into the woman's vehicle and drive away from the scene with the woman still inside the vehicle. Officers saturated the area looking for the vehicle and missing woman.

At about 10 a.m., the woman was located in the 1900 block of Kimberly Drive in a residential area. She was deceased with trauma to her head. Detectives will work with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. At that time, the victim's vehicle remained missing.

At about 11 a.m., officers located the victim's missing vehicle in the 2000 block of Elm Point inside the parking lot of an apartment complex. The suspect was not located. Officers continue to canvas the apartment complex and collect evidence from that scene.
