Wind Power Development in Nepal

1-10 of 13

Wind, a renewable source of energy brings new challenges for government since it is not yet a proven technology in developing countries. It is, thereby, used as a backup source of energy along with the hydropower, solar energy etc. It is produced, stored, transferred and used in many forms through its mechanical fixtures. The fixtures either form a wind turbine to produce electricity, a wind mill to produce mechanical power, or wind pump to pump water. Apparently, the basic need in the energy sector is electricity. Thus, installation of wind turbine fills the gap between abundance and scarcity in the production of electricity. There have been few developments of small wind turbines in the last decade. But there is no specific policy to boost the wind sector in Nepal. The government of Nepal is trying its best to encourage wind power development in Nepal.
