About Americans for UNFPA

We build moral, political and financial support within the United States for UNFPA. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, provides womens health and promotes the rights of women in 180 countries. It is the largest international source of such assistance.

We are the official committee for UNFPA in the United States. We are a U.S. based 501C-3 organization funded by private foundations, corporations and individual donors. We were founded in 1998. We educate, advocate and raise funds for UNFPA.

UNFPA, like all UN agencies, is funded by the voluntary contributions of governments and private foundations. UNFPA was founded in 1969.

Our Work

Our outreach has generated tens of thousands of supporters for global womens health and channeled their passion into advocacy on behalf of UNFPAs program. The result is an increase in the U.S. governments contribution to UNFPA to $50 million. (UNFPA, like all UN agencies, is funded by the voluntary contributions of governments and private foundations.)

Our current goal is to gradually increase U.S. funding to $100 million for the life saving work of UNFPA.

Since 1998 we have raised over $40 million to support UNFPAs work from individuals, foundation and corporations.

Each year Americans for UNFPA honors individuals who have made exemplary contributions to womens health and/or the promotion of womens rights around the world. These extraordinary individuals promote women in their own communities, often in challenging circumstances. These are stories of courage and commitment that Americans rarely hear.

Each year an American college student becomes a young ambassador for UNFPA. Chosen for her interest in a career that promotes women around the world, the winner of our Student Award travels to visit one of our honorees, lobbies her members of Congress and educates her classmates on the challenges and solutions to global womens health.
