Hypnotic visions through a kaleidoscope are layered with contorted reflections of light, a glitching television, and hue changing colored bands, creating a multilayered distorted landscape.

Perceived notions of life are distorted and blurred because of where we live, along with the publications and programs we read and view. A valid opinion is hard to form when one is bombarded with bias, and tough to visualize truth through layers of swayed statistics, and poorly researched views.

Like its name the video is an inferior substitute for the unconscious. Automatism was incorporated in its creation, but as Freud stated about surrealist artists, this piece has also been shaped by ego. Ersatz is a non sequitur dreamscape made up of idiosyncratic juxtapositions, contrasts, and archetypes. The music was provided by John Patrus who improvised on his guitar while watching the video.
