  • ahhh its a ginger

  • Anyone think that that last note sounded a bit car-alarm-y?

  • I really prefer Kristin to Shirley..... I love Shirley but some of the notes she hit just hurt my poor lil ear drums!

  • @ least the friggin quality is better!!

  • Does anyone else think that the last note she holds at the very end sounds like a car alarm?

  • @Detectivefiction The character of Marian was written to be a frigid and uptight spinster who then through her relationship with Harold HIll, the Music Man, develops into a woman discovering her own sexuality/sensuality. However, as portrayed by Shirley Jones in the 1961 movie version, she is sympathetic from the start, most especially to her little brother with the speech impediment which they underplay in the TV version.

  • better than part 2 pixcel free!!!!!!!!!

  • this whole movie should be called Ferris bueller presents: the musicman...

  • Why do they remake classics? How do you compete with a cast like Shirley Jones, Robert Preston, Buddy Hackett, Ron Howard, Hermione Gingold, Pert Kelton, and Paul Ford? I like Mathew Broderick, but he just have the "shark" quality needed to pull this off.

  • I like Kristin Chenowith's voice in this song as well, excited to finish the movie. So far this is the only song that can compare with the original (the first songs were so hard to watch!). But I really like Shirley Jones, too. AND she did the part while pregnant. Making a movie while in your first trimester...ugh, she was probably so sick. And it affects your voice as well. All things considered, she did amazingly well!!! And Kristin Chenowith looks way too creepy at the end of this scene ;)

  • I like Kristin Chenowith's Marian much better than Shirley Jones's, whom I've never liked as Marian. Shirley Jones just seemed too frigid and uptight, while Kristin had a more sympathetic, positive take on the character. Her Marian was the town eccentric rather than a stereotypical old maid.

  • 9:06 your record is skipping

  • Did you drop your... NO.

    Didn't we meet in.... NO!

  • @Allikinz0708

I'll only be in town a short while and I- ....GOOD!

  • omg. winthrop is corey from PROM!

  • Even though the original is amazing, I DO love Kristin Chenoweth's voice.

  • @sarbearah96 Oh, yeah! Do you think so? On so many counts, I enjoy the 1967 version, but Kristin's voice in this song simply brings 'ya to tears. Mrs. Partridge...eh...just ok.

  • @MrDanielBrisk Yeah, I agree. Kristin also has a lot more emotion, which I enjoy more.

  • holy shit they have faces?!

  • Is winthrop tht guy from lemonade mouth??

  • @Adara135 no

  • @Adara135 what guy?

  • I don't think this is like a parody. It is a TV movie made to include a lot more of the material from the stage production. While I adore Shirley Jones and Robert Preston, I adore Kristin's voice and spunk in this role. I grew up with the original and that will always be my favorite but I find this one to be enjoyable as well.

  • i can't help it... this version of the Music Man is like a parody of the original... its so bad its pathetic

  • @GarretMurtagh The more I watch this, the more I have to agree, bwahaha.

  • I love both version, and they are very similar to me.

  • i love me some Cheno!

  • The Irish mother was on Eloise @ the plaza!!!!!!

  • A little too nasal for my taste.

  • watching/listening to her sing this and it sounding like this makes me thinkj of how much different her voice was in Wicked when she sang Popular

  • Kristin Chenoweth is abslolutly amazing but, her voice is sooooo annoying except for when she sings, then its amazing again!

  • k I'm sorry, but the lines are delivered as if they're expecting the music, rather than letting it flow like it's supposed to.

  • It's April Rhodes from Glee!!

  • @broadwaymike92 yeah and Glinda from Wicked! :D

  • "Amber Alice" is really "Amaryllis." And I love Kristin Chenowith, but Matthew Broderick is terribly miscast in this show. Harold Hill needs to be a slick, fast, clever charmer. Broderick has the charm, but slick he's not... Maybe I'm just prejudiced because I love Robert Preston in this role so much, but Broderick just doesn't cut it for me...

  • @456nopa personally I think Kristin was miscast as well. Not that I don't *adore* her (because I do), but something about her doesn't add up to this role. She's too modern maybe?

  • 0:00 - 1:01 cue "halloween" theme song

  • was that chick in wicked

  • @20jesusfreak Hell Yes!

  • @20jesusfreak she played the original Galinda in it! lol

  • Amber Alice is so mean! She has no reasoning in what she says. She laughs at poor winthrop and calls her nice piano teacher an old maid! Then HUGS her!!!

  • Kristen Chenoweth is amazing, but I think her hair is so ugly... :(

  • Original is WAY better.

  • i played winthrop in a play once!

    its so fun!

  • Shirley Jones was prettier, but Kristin Chenowith has a beautiful voice too.

  • dude wht the heck!

Amaryillis is supposed to sing the ending with her!!!

im gonna b amarillis in a high school play and i wanted to hear her sing!!! :(

  • Ugh it's so obvious Mrs Paroo didn't have any dialect coaching... her accent is awful

  • they don't even follow the script in this one.

  • 212 became old maids. Sorry but I love the 1962 one better

  • @jedimasterawesome Glad you do =)

  • isn't Kristen chenoweth a fantastic actress? i mean she goes from being a stuck up love depived music teacher to a gentle which in wicked to a drunk in glee...so derserse! yeah i know she did more i'm just saying =)

  • i love that song and im doing that play and that song is really high pitched

  • I like the 1962 one better :/

  • 9 people become old maids (like her)

  • lmao ill become an old maid just like you!

  • Kristin is awesome!

  • I play Marcellus in this play. I have to sing Shapoopi and they stuff me with pillows to make me look fat! :)

  • never... ill die an old maid like you! (thinks: oh crap did i say that out loud?)

  • I'm also in the play but I'm constable Locke.

  • I'm in this and I play Harold Hill!! I am so excited

  • This version stinks. Kristin Chenoweth was OK in this film. But Delidude has it right, Preston's version in 1962 was much better

  • @Lukelr it's all in what you like i guess

  • Opp. Pwned.

  • 5:50 burrrrrrrrrrrrrn

  • Is that a real Irish accent?

  • OMG, my school is having this play, and I CANT WAIT TO TRY OUT!! im going for the libraryian!!

  • @truthorchallenge I hope you learn how to spell librarian before you try out for her role.

  • @musicalmeg19 i hope she learns the main character's name...

  • @truthorchallenge hey, my school is doing this too! Our play is all next weekend!

  • Despite the fact that this movie is so poorly done, Cheno's "Goodnight, My Someone" is gorgeous, and Deb Monk's performance is incredible!

  • This is the first thing I ever saw Kristin Chenoweth in.... and I fell in love instantly!

  • this is the best version of all!!!!!

    I love the Lancelot song....♥

perdón por el inglés, pero soy soy estadounidense....

    jajajaja

    xD

  • I like how Marian is playing hard 2get lol

  • I love the mom's voice! I've missed hearing that voice since my trip to Ireland!

  • 9:22 - is that omg kitteh? lol i love her voice

  • 6:26

Marian: "Don't correct me, girl!" *SLAP!!*

  • i have to say, i like the 1962 version of "Goodnight, My Someone" a bit better than this one, simply because I like the moment between Marion and Amaryllis better than Kristen Chenoweth's somewhat pining attitude at the end of this version. She still put over the number beautifully though!

  • Did women wear neckties back then? Call me a little critical, but I'm just curious as to whether that is historically accurate.

  • did you drop your-

    no!

    didn't we meet in-

    no!

i'll only be in town a short while-

    good

    lol!!

  • it's stupid to compare the original to the remake. they both have their strong points, and this remake had an all-star cast: matthew, debra, kristin, victor, etc.

but, i think it's easier to be enchanted by the way kristin portrays marian than the way shirley portrays her. shirley's marian is VERY simple and plain. kristin's is, too, in a way, but it also stands out. kristin and shirley are both fantastic, and it's a hard thing to live up to shirley jones.

  • he's a STALKERR!

  • @Bubblenwrap he could b arrested now and days. god i wish i lived back then. lol

  • is it just me or does kristin look beautiful in the costumes in this movie

  • Dang that girl can hold a high note!

  • loveeeeeeeeeeeeee kristin!

  • wait is this the original movie?

  • @kewlgirl100 no its not the original

  • I wish kristin chenoweth was my piano teacher...

  • Stalkerr! [;

  • im scared....

  • kristen chennoweth !!!!! hurray !!!!

  • kristen chennoweth !!!!! hurray !!!!

  • Music Man is the best thing since sliced bread.

  • I played Amaryllis back in elementary school......I always felt so bad when I had to make fun of Winthrop :( haha

  • im playing mrs. paroo in my school's version of the music man. piano lesson is very hard to do in an irish accent!!

  • The mother looks like Tyne Daly.

  • i feel so bad for winthrop

  • hang on if it's summer and it gets dark late when are these people eating?

  • Comment removed

  • Ugh. "Why does he get so mad at people just becasue they lisp?"

Well...SHE WAS LAUGHING AT HIM. I would cry too! Poor Winthrop.

  • im actualy doing this for a play im trying to figure out charlie

  • Ugh, it's sickening how they use almost the exect same script as the first movie. Originality please!

  • they didn't use the same script as the first movie... they used the same script as the musical... if they were to be "original", as you say, then a bunch of other people would be upset that they weren't faithful to the Meredith Willson's book

  • im playing the part of marian! im copying what she is doing.

  • @StarzGaze31 You Really Shouldn't Copy What A Version Of A Character Is Doing. You Should Come Up With Your Own Portrayal. When I Played Marian, I Watched "Music Man" Merely Just To Check Out The Musical And Understand The Story. I Didn't Think Of What Kristin Chenoweth, Or Shirley Jones Did. And I Recommend You Do The Same For The Rest Of Your Theatre Portrayals :]

  • KRISTIN CHENOWETH. <3 <3

  • I love Kristen Chenoweth!

  • hot damn that woman can sing.

  • @surferguy345

hah. you should see the original. she sounds like shit compared to shirley jones.

  • @BAAAAAAABA I saw this version after I watched the original, and I actually prefer Kristin Chenoweth's voice to Shirley Jones.

  • HAHAHA tht made me lol

  • @1241Keith1421 O.O why?

  • MEOW! What a fisty lady!

  • the boy exhibits antisocial behavior and the girl is unusually cruel

  • My sisters go to a school named Saint Paul and they are doing this play and I play Amaryllis the piano girl

  • much better quality than part two. .__.

  • I squealed like a maniac when she started singing Goodnight, my Someone for that was my audition song on Thursday.

  • Kristin Chenoweth is my hero

  • @summerray2010 lame

  • @Perplehat and why do you say that

  • she was just in glee, wow.

  • I kinda know how he feels.

all my friends say i have lisp but , I do it on purpose to make them life.

    They don't believe!

  • I've seen both this version and the one with Robert Preston. (I like both) I've noticed quite a difference in the script between both. Which one follows the original 1957 script, or does neither? The lyrics of the songs appear to be the same, except for "Rock Island".

  • robert preston's version follows the original script nearly to the letter

  • @delidude1999 um... so does this one

  • @delidude1999 Robert Preston's version is the original! :)

  • @gigianna98 my point exactly...this is crap. same script (more or less) but crap with the actorw

  • @delidude1999 this doesn't COMPETE with preston's version

  • @Vaprogyne yea, this was a travesty--successful movie musicals are few and far between-- the original music man was a huge success. why try a remake? it was a waste of money

  • nathan lane? i'm not sure, he seems to be a bit too...i don't want to say slimy, but he's along the lines of that. You need someone suave and there is the love interest to factor in. Now see, if Steve Martin could sing, he'd be a dead ringer.

  • lol it just so happens that cheno loves nathan lane. That could've worked. And steve martin? Really? No.

  • matthew rocks<3 i love him

  • I get a kick out of her she has a very cute style and i'm looking forward to being in this play.

  • I'm not sure about Kristen Chenoweth... I think there's a little too much "sex" in her attitude for her to really be an effective Marian, who is supposed to be INCREDIBLY prudish.

  • we live in different times now.. lol. actresses were a little different back then than they are now.. i actually think she doesn't have the face of a star.. (don't know how t describe it so don't ask lol) but she has an incredible voice. she should do disney voice overs. or has she already?

  • AHHHH! What are you two saying?! She's a wonderful actress. Personally, i don't think "sex" is involved anywhere in here. (Except at the footbridge ^.-)

  • i never said she couldn't act. lol.

  • thank you and she's a perfectly good actress. My dad grew up with this, either it was made when he was boy or before he was born. he was born in the 50's or the 40's.

  • I agree!

  • Irish accent? What Irish accent??? OH YEAH!!! MRS. PAROO IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN IRISH ACCENT? WHERE DID IT GO???

  • Shirley Jones was the best for the roll because Kristen sounds a bit like a little kid... The older man in the other one was better than Matthew Broderick because he had a better voice and dance skills and he's a better actor!

  • Kristin does sound a little like a child, but really... She can't help that, though. If you listen to her natural voice (in interviews and such) you can tell, though, that she REALLY toned the childish-ness down for this movie. Her acting is spot-on, though, the face she makes at 5:01? Ah-MAZING. And her voice is really fantabulous, it's amazing, considering the way she talks, and her size. I mean, really, she's no bigger than the average twelve-year-old!

  • Matthew Broderick wasn't the greatest choice, agreed... but the guy in the older movie wasn't any better... nor did he look young enough for the part. lol

  • Was this before or after she was in Wicked because they both came out in 2003.

  • This was most likely after. Wicked was a working progess for a few years before it prepared. So this was either during her run as G(a)linda or immediately after.

  • Its a Ok musical, but i Truthfully Hate the Fact Matthew Broderick iss Harold Hill.....I Think he is a very Mediocre Singer, which makes the movie Slightly Tacky.....but still a "good" movie

  • Comment removed

  • i love this! but the litle girl is such a bad actor!!

  • Kristin's vibrato on the upper notes are beautiful.

  • @bwaybaby333 yea but the little guy who plays winthrop sounds like a robot , he dosent even have a lisp no really

  • OMG!!! Kristin Chenoweth!!! she played Glinda in Wicked!!! lol :D

  • the actress that plays Mrs. Paroo doesn't even sound irish! Pert Kelton was better in the original.

  • gosh I love Cheno

  • i am windthrope in this play(michael)

  • I'm Marian in this Play

  • You must know that that is awesome.

  • Kristen did amazing in this, this is a great adaption. But if you compare Matthew Broderick's performance with Robert Preston you'll find that Preston worked the rule much better. I like Broderick, but this was not the movie for him.

  • I completely agree. Preston was a lot better-he did so much more with the role. I think Broderick does a lot better with the nervous, funny roles, not the smooth-talking con-men roles.

  • i agree 100%. although i dont think Kristen did better than Shirley Jones. but she did very well taking on a type of character whom she wouldnt normally play.

  • kristen is a great marion! Good voice for her

  • I love how close to the script this version is.

(I'm in the play right now)

  • If you guys don't like this version why do you watch it,I've never seen the original,so I have no idea how it is,so I like this version

  • This is only part 3. You can't just stop. You can't. Universal explosions, and such.

  • Why is he stalking her? Kristen looks so funny in that hat!

  • he thinks shes hot.

  • i sing goodnight my someone every night before i go to sleep

  • she's funny

  • stalker

  • not bad, but the original music man (Robert Preston) had a swagger that Broderick will never have

  • I TOTALLY agree
