Hmm.. I think I know the reason behind the name. I think the 4D part means 4 Dimensions because it looks 4 Dimensional. As for the 8, it beats me, unless there is 8 triangles or something. I'm not quite sure

nope they are 2x2s and all can be solved same as 2x2 just have to look at it carefully

the 4D8 doesn't solve the same way as a 2x2. it is similar but the pieces are oriented differently than a 2x2
