@IUKism It's not water; it's a solution of sugar, corn syrup, and potassium nitrate. When the water from the solution evaporates, the solutes crystalize into the mass which you described as "mashed patatoes".
@adstalynx Some common ingredients that can be used in place of corn syrup include molasses or caramel. Corn syrup works the best, though. Use it if you can.
@remelsheikh If you are asking if you can add color to it, yes. There are many powdered dyes that work to add color but they are quite expensive compared to the other ingredients so I tend to not use them.
i was jst wondering how long does this process take to make one like this cause i was thinking about making it that way instead of jst pouring them in a pan and they might catch on fire
Thanks for the video man. I used to cook sugat and patasium nitrate with no water. In this video you showed me a very more effective way. Thank you and keep up the good videos
@hicks928 Thanks! And yeah, I used to make them the same way, and they almost always ended up burnt or under cooked. I find dissolving it in water to begin with is very helpful as it prevents burning and makes it easy to tell exactly when it is done cooking.
lol awesome! Thanks! I got 1 question. You said you got your salt peter at a hard ware store. What kind? Like I live in nyc queens. Just wondering like where to get mine cheap :) Thanks!

@musiukai Yeah a lot of people point out that I do all of my chemistry in the kitchen. I do however have separate pans for these experiments.

@jayjayspider I got mine at a Home Depot.
ChemHow2 5 months ago
@jayjayspider what they sell at lowes and other places is called stump remover. it is made up of pure potasium nitrate.
hicks928 4 months ago
@hicks928 Although make sure to check the label because some stump removers are copper-based.
