I said the discussion would never end regarding personal preference, not that it could not be discussed. I also never said it was an "amazing" performance. I said I was shocked people thought it was over the top. That was my remark not a complaint. Dynamics involve volume, how loud and soft the voice or music is. There are several songs and genres that are done at one constant volume level. To me this is not the case. Personal preference is not subject to anything...its your personal preference.

From the start the song is uptempo and punched up. So I knew it wasn't going to be soft and quiet. She is Jill Scott. I LOVE Billie Holiday's interpretation, but this is Jill's. No one owns a jazz classic. Thats why its jazz, its improvisational and interprative...But who can argue about personal preference? The discussion would never end.

Jill and Chris did an AMAZING rendition of this beautiful Billie Holiday original song about heratache. Jill is a truly fantastic gifted jazz/soul artist and in my opinion one of the thee best so far in this century. A true artist is able to interprite and make an original beautiful song into their own and make it amazing, and that's exactly what Jill and Chris did with this beautiful classic. True jazz involves improvisation and interpretation, it is up to the artist. It's always been that way...the is no one way to sing it. I'm shocked people are saying she went over the top. This is Jill Scotts interpetation of the song, not Billie Holidays....she's not a depressed person singin her pain through the song. She's a strong positive woman telling heartache what to do and where to go. LOL!

Jill Scott is a tremendous talent.Here though I think she is over the top.She is pushing too hard.
