I've heard this guy's voice for years. I used to stay up late in middle school to watch "Seconds from Disaster" so I could see the chain of events accompanied by tense music and hear "the guy with the awesome voice" tell me about it.
Yeah, I don't think this is Don. Don's voice is a lot richer, fuller. I looked at Ashton Smith's site and compared, and I'm sure this is him. But, like Doncalooch said, there are a lot of people who do these things, so it could be a number of people.
It's not Don Lafontaine by virtue of the fact that Ashton Smith himself commented on the clip and, via cryptic wording, admits that it's his own voice....look down four comments below this one :-) Just throwing this out there..... maybe we should re-evaluate our priorities.....ya know.....seeing as how we've put this much effort into finding out who's voice is on a movie trailer?
Ashton Smith sounds right. Good response Doncalooch, many people seem to forget that fact. Don LaFontaine isn't the ONLY "trailer voice guy" out there. The list also includes Jonathan Cook, John Leader, Joe Cipriano and famous Disney voice Mark Elliot. Don has a distinct voice that if you really listen closely sets him apart from the rest.
Anyone who posts this and says it's Don Lafontaine simply has no idea what he sounds like. There is no discussion on this. And you tell me that I need to do a little research?
Unlike you I did do my research and I found out that the guy who did the voice over in this trailer is a man by the name of Ashton Smith.
Why don't you take your own advice and search LaFontaine and Ashton Smith and compare their voices to the one you hear in the above clip and see for yourself how wrong you are.
There are two men who voiced this trailer. The deeeep voice is that of Ashton Smith. DaRunningMan is correct, Ashton does a lot of the trailers, Don doesnt do near as many trailers as he used to although he still does A LOT of VO work. There are many guys who do the trailers nowadays, Ashton Smith, George DelHoyo, Ben Patrick Johnson, Hal Douglas, Andy Geller, Tony Rodgers, Scott Rummell and countless others.

The voice was definitely NOT that of Don LaFontaine. If others are saying it was Ashton Smith, it probably was Ashton Smith.

Well put, Mr. Smith. Thank you for setting that straight. And just for the record, I recognized your dulcet tones immediately :-)

But so many websites list LaFontaine as doing this trailer, and it does sound kinda like him.

hal douglas, and ur wrong this is don lafontaine. it was one of his 5000 trailers, hitchikers that is.

Hal Leonard or something?
MardyAss 5 years ago
Yeah...that isn't Don LaFontaine. The person who posted this must think that every voice over in a trailer is Don LaFontaine.
Whoever did this voice over specifically is the other major voice over artist in trailers. Does anyone know this guy's name?
DaRunningMan 5 years ago
This isn't Don LaFontaine's voice. You have it wrong.
