I liked Battle LA, just simply because the aliens didn't look like the normal aliens that you always see. For some reason, most movies nowadays depict aliens as ugly monsters, when we don't know what aliens even look like, (if they do exist). For all we know, aliens could just look like normal humans, kinda like in the The Day The Earth Stood Still movie from the 1950's, and the remake from 2009.
This is a great list--a great number of them I didn't see because I knew they were going to be horrible. But I did see some like I Am Number Four, and I thought it was terrible--the effects were okay but not memorable, and the acting seemed like way off, like the cast were trying to get their lines said the right way.
And for the most part, I try to stay away of movies about aliens because they are just repeating what Aliens and Independence Day did, only they can't reach as far.
You know what was sad? When I first saw the trailer to Green Lantern, I was REALLY excited. Green Lantern in the comics is an awesome hero and I really like Ryan Reynolds. For Grad Night, I even bought a Green Lantern cape! After seeing it, I cringe at my cape whenever I see it in my closet. That was one of the BIGGEST disappointments of movies in 2011, luckily, I was saved by Captain America. :D
Cowboys and Aliens and Green Hornet were okay, but there pretty forgettable after the first viewing. And THANK GOD somebody else besides me hated I Am Number Four. That was my least favorite film of the year and nobody else I found agreed with me. And Despite the big disappointment Green Lantern was, DC still has Dark Knight Rises to help catch up with Marvel. Hopefully that'll be decent
@LeaxoftheUnderworld Yeah but after that, what else has DC got? "man of Steel"? Another waste of space Superman film using General Zod AGAIN instead of trying someone new like darkseid or Metallo or something? Besides, Nolan and Bale are done with Batman after this last film. WB plans to continue the franchise without them but we all know that isn't gonna work out.
And with every other DC project sucking or not getting off the ground and Marvel running strong, they're boned
@DangofaN1 I actually say last year was worse. There were bigger disappointments and more of them then this year. This year had a lot of shitty movies but most of them were obvious they were gonna suck, last year had lots of movies that looked good but sucked terribly. That's why is was harder for me to come up with top 12 for this year. If I know something sucks I won't go see it, that's why you don't see like "Jack and Jill" on this list for example.
Since you hate the Green Lantern movie so much, you should see these videos. It's pretty much the reaction of Green Lantern's review of his movie. It's in two parts.
I honestly was looking forward to Battle Los Angeles and Apollo 18. But before I got chance to see them, my friends came at me saying "don't waste your money on this shit". Now hearing your opinion, thank god I didn't go see them. Looking forward to your best movies of 2011 video!
@XJVHS Battle LA could have been good if the aliens acted like actual aliens and not like typical soldiers with uglier appearances. The action is decent but that's about it. these movies are only worth watching if you got them for free as a gift or if someone was showing you to them, and even then, they;re really not that worth wild either.
Thorough out the whole green lantern segment you repeatedly say how awful of a movie it is, but you never really give good reasons why it's such a bad movie. So why is it so bad?
@OBENsoccer11 Actually I did. I said Ryan Reynolds wasn't funny, the writing and dialog are atrocious, and there's so much going on in the movie it doesn't hold for 5 minutes for us to care about anyone or anything. This film is all flash and negative zero percent substance. Nothing works in this movie, not the characters, not the acting, not the humor, and coming from Casino Royale's director, it just makes the movie look so much worse.
@IloveOtherPplsMsry I felt those sucked horribly too. Only ones I liked were Batman: Gotham Knight and The Superman/Batman: Public enemies movie. I tried watching them but I just cared less and less after each one and it felt more like a strenuous chore to watch them then as entertainment.
@mets2128 How I will review it is the same way I review anything...I just review it, not really sure what you meant by "how". As for when, I have to see the series first and lately I've been doing other things and also I didn't feel up for watching it yet so whenever I get to it, you will see it in the list updates i put up.
Not a bad list, hopefully 2012 will have better movies. Also, don't count out Batman as being DC's last trump card to salvage their reputation with these movies.
@gomu269 Sadly DC has only had Batman and Superman movies to rely on for their success rates, and now with Smallville over and Superman's movies continually sucking, Batman is all they got left for now. I mean look, Catwoman, Supergirl both sucked horribly, the Aquaman and Wonder Woman TV pilots both failed and there has been barely any future DC super hero film news mentioned.
They better have something better planned then "Man of Steel" or future Lantern sequels or they are screwed,
@BionicSlime True, after Dark Knight Rises, I'm not sure what DC will have to offer for a long time. Even that won't be enough to suffice for 2012 with the new spiderman and Avengers movie. I haven't seen Green Lantern yet, but I'm not looking forward to watching it anytime soon and feel bad for the fans that were given that mess of a film to sit through.
@gomu269 Not only that, but Marvel is also planning Thor 2, Iron Man 3, X-men First Class 2 and possible future franchises for Dr. Strange. Ant Man, and Captain America.
