What I dont understand is why doesn't Obi-Wan rescue Anikan before he gets roasted? he could had tried to change Anikan back from the dark side.

in the end he ultimately let Anikan turn to Vader and whole worlds were destroyed because so...

am I missing something about the plot development here?

Interesting point. Anakin is the superior duelist here, and this is the reason Obi-Wan sought the advantage of the higher ground. Anakin lost on a mental level. He became over-confident and thought he could negate that advantage with raw power. I would point to a similar situation in a movie known as Rob Roy, where the superior swordsman lost because he was cocky and thought to draw the fight out.

@JudoPimpSlap Anakin lost because he was blinded by his rage. He wanted to dominate and overpower Obi Wan (who was the greatest user of the Soresu Form ever) with his aggressive Djem So style. Instead of trying to figure out a different way to beat him (like Dooku did), he only became angrier. IMO Jedi Anakin was the strongest Jedi ever! In terms of Swordmanship only Windu was maybe superior and force knowledge Luke/Yoda, but no one had that much power.
