THANKS FOR SHARING! Brought back a lot of memories. Went thru a really bad time in my life back then (early '70s) and listened to this often. It helped me get thru some stuff.
"for me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart,on any path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, looking looking breathlessly" -don juan
For about 4 years straight, this was the album side me and my girlfriend put on as we got into bed each and every night. So this album side is of course one of OUR favorites, to say the least!! It calms, sooths, envigorates, gets multi-orgasmic, and sends one off to another world and another consciousness. How sweet, how sweeet!! It never gets old. Purrfection...
Had this album on vinyl in the early '70's and put it on tape so I could listen to it in the car, til my new car had a CD player and I couldn't find it in CD. Well I found it about a year ago and snatched it up cuz it's my all time favorite. People think it's some later Carlos and they are shocked that he did this fusion before he went "commercial" or AM radio friendly. He is seldom given the recognition of "great" when it comes to playing. Carlos, you da Man!
@zfromthez I love Carlos because he was still great without having to sell his soul. Meaning, it wasn't his goal to be known as a "Great Guitarist". He was just great all by himself. Like Hendrix, for example. He set out to become the best. He achieved his goal, but he learned a big lesson. He said something like "I don't wanna be a clown anymore". Kinda like, he opened up a can of worms type thing. Santana, I feel, never had that ego. He was and is just great.
you can see how many didnt get it by the amount of ppl who start with part 1 and how many are at part 6 when it is over....drops significantly...too bad, this album is simply amazing, new respect from me to carlos...he is an amazing musician and the inspiration to one of my favorite bands "I Mother Earth" canadian rock band...check them out if u like santana
when you are not interested in money and fame then you create things that people at first don't comprehend but as time goes by your creation starts to be visualized and grasped by some but not others.
The '72 Caravanserai concert in NYC was stunning - an experience I will never, ever, ever forget. I kid you not, the midnight show broke at dawn and the entire audience was speechless, as though they had communed with the almighty. I think everyone went to the concert expecting to hear work from the previous 3 albums; I (the Lion optical illusion cover), Abraxas, and III. No one was prepared for this. BRILLIANT INDEED! :D
It was an excellent concert. I saw him in Baltimore and he played all of the old songs and all of these because he was in a new spiritual place after hanging with John McLaughlin. It was truly an awesome show and one I will never forget!
This album...along with Welcome and Borboletta are the finest of Santana's creations (IMO). The Oneness and Swing of Delight albums were great as well!
no words worthy...just cut out my heart...dig up my long lost soul....build a home for a possum or a parrot. and hang it from a tree.

Isn't the lead guitar playing in this song by a very young Neil Schon who went on to be in Journey?

Metaphorically, Carlos takes you directly to God here. INNEFFABLE BRILLIANCE!
Part 1 - Think about writing this. Impossible...
Part 2 - Think about PLAYING this!! A miracle of songcraft and musicanship.
