I'm a big fan of both Aimee Mann and Elvis Costello. I had no idea that they wrote/recorded this song together. Elivis did his w/o Amimee (released '96 album 'All This Useless Beauty) and Amimee included Elvis (back up voc.) I really like both.
Trying to convert it to an mp3 and it keeps cutting off at the 2:31 mark. Grr. This is one of my favorite songs on the whole album :( Guess that's what you get for stealin
Aimee wrote the music and sent it to Elvis Costello to write the lyrics. She has stated in interviews that she was intimidated by his lyrical genius, and dreaded the thought of being in a room together crafting lyrics, so she sent him the tape with the music she wrote. Elvis is credited on the album under his real name, Declan MacManus. Elvis Costello is his stage name.
My understanding is that Elvis Costello wrote this song for Aimee Mann. She helped enough to get a songwriting credit, but it's essentially an Elvis Costello song. It wasn't written by "A. Mann/D. MacManus" as stated here.
