I thought it was he tried to fight the anti spirals but he seen what he had to face and knew there was no chance he could win so he played along with the anti spirals rules instead and smashed all hope for humanity being free and made humans fear him. He made a beast army to help make and keep ppl down underground so humanity could atleast live on until Kamina and Simon came along.

Watching this with 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen playing in the background is almost surreal... Watching Lazengan tearing into his allies while the people are singing 'Hallelujah' has a strange profound quality... a kind of sadness I can't quite place.

iI think that this happened because Anti Spiral showed him the Spiral Nemesis, and so he stopped everyone to let the universe go on. Probabily he would even defeat anti spirals, but he surrended to that and created the ungenetical breed of Beastmen.

@ThePeppim I think the basic story that occurs is, the Anti-Spirals come to destroy Lore Genome's home world, Lord Genome's find a Gunmen, takes control of it, and begins a resistance against the Anti-Spiral armada. Then yes, the Anti-Spiral approaches him and teaches him of the Spiral Nemesis, which drives him insane and to a point where he agrees with the Anti-Spiral's aims, so he turns on his own resistance, and then continues to enslave all humankind.

@ThePeppim That's an interesting idea, but just from how zealous the Anti-Spiral is in crushing the Dai-Gurren Brigade towards the series finale, I doubt this is the case. I actually get the feeling that the gunman lord Genome found was Anti-Spiral technology, as the primary warships they use are comprised of many faces meshed together in the same shape, and from there I think Genome's resistance developed their own Gunmen.

man thats really messed up. He was forced to betray his comrades and kill off the majority of his own race to protect the galaxy from being destroyed. not only is lord genome the most badass man in the galaxy he's also a tragic figure.

@kisukes221 Lordgenom tried to raise a rebellion against the Anti-Spiral like Simon later did, but failed, so returned home, drove all Spiral life underground, and created Beastmen, human/animal half breeds that can't produce spiral energy to try to save humanity. The anti-spirals believed that since spiral life forms evolve, eventually each being would become it's own galaxy and destroy the universe, so they tried to destroy all spiral life.
