The laugh is, the ship yard that 'restored' Gondola decided she was too far gone, so simply built another boat instead.

around the same time that Vickers Shipbuilding works was recreating Gondola in the late 1970s, the Flying Scotsman was re-boilered in the adjacent Engineering Works. Fact. Oh, and my pal cleans the boiler every week, hello Alan Wright!
