There's a Revenge of Shinobi prototype on the net now and the Spiderman boss in it is the real colors of the actual spiderman but looks like the spiderman in Version 1. Just uses Blue instead of Black in other words. Maybe I should upload a video of the prototype. Been really wanting to but haven't gotten around to it.

First he was unofficial. When Sega got the rights to make Spiderman vs Kingpin they made him official and instead of transforming into Batman, ran away. Batman was later replaced with Devilman from the anime series of the same name.

I am so glad I saw this. I downloaded this game onto my brothers wii the other day and when i got to this bit I saw 'Spiderman' was completely white!!! And I was like, wait a minute, i swear he was actually red and black (like your version shows) back in those days! But, as that comment below said, copyright laws were not as tight back then, yet now they've had to censor him on the new downloaded versions i.e. on wii or PS3. Best thing bout this game, fighting Spiderman, and hey, Batman too!

Spider-Man appeared in multiple versions of Shinobi. There were many Spider-Men enemies (not bosses) in the arcade version (Shinobi). I think he also appeared in the Master System version.

Also appearing in this game is a terminator/cyborg who turns green like the Hulk. He's a combo of 2 more copyrighted characters.

And appearing in Shinobi (arcade, SMS, TG16, NES versions) are posters of Marilyn Monroe.

By the way, I think Sega & Marvel Comics had something worked out since Sega did the Spider-Man arcade game that came out in 1991 (just won the arcade board on Ebay recently---love that game). Then again I think they also did the Sega Genesis & CD versions of Batman Returns (owned by DC Comics).

In the megadrive version Spidermans presence was strange (because he leaves after your battle with him, then a demon instead of Batman attacks), but in this version it makes sense - because its not Spiderman OR Batman, its some sort of shapeshifting demon working for Zeed!
