@The83rdTrombonist All these soloists were heavily influenced by Frank Rosolino's (what jazz trombonist isn't influenced by Frank though...) solo on....gah, can't remember the album. Anyways, Frank and Conte Candoli are heading up a quintet in Europe.
I'd love to hear James Morrison Boneist and any other brass extraordinare perform in concert with these guys, it might have already happened but not sure.
"TENGO QUE DECIRLO" Realmente en Mexico no existe un nivel musical que les permita a los musicos mexicanos destacar a nivel internacional, soy musico mexicano y tristemente vivo esta realidad.
While I will agree with you that Rosolino was the best trombone player that ever lived, Carl Fontana comes in a close second and then Bill Watrous. Rosolino's distinguishing sound comes from licks that he played that were similar to the licks Clark Terry plays that also distinguish his playing. I have never heard anyone but Terry and Rosolino do those licks. The lick sort of sounds like dai-ya dai-ya dai-ya...ya know?
I've never really dug Fontana or Watrous......can't quit listening to Rosolino, and I'm a trumpet player.. He has the entire pkg.....Sound, lyrical, plays with a fire and intensity that keeps you on the edge of your seat....for ME, there are no others....

Buy as many Frank Rosolino albums/CD's as you can afford if you want to hear trombone PLAYED! NO ONE plays like Frank!

On a good night in 1967, John Minor's Silvertones could jam this... OK, maybe not.
I couldn't carry one of their instrument cases. What they do need is fans and I am one.
