I just went out for breakfast and coffee. I had the displeasure of reading the local newspaper while I ate.
You have to be a special kind of idiot not to see the hypocrisy and conflict of interest in these media. They're just tabloids for people with slightly higher than average intellegence.
"The stimulus bill", "advances in green technology", "making it easier to sue for sex discrimination", "averting a depression", "no child left behind"...
It's funny how they quote colossal failures as examples of success. Really, it is.
Yep, the worst it gets , the more rediculous it gets, and sadly the more completely and hilarious it gets. I have the same reaction reading the news at the restaurant. Used to be anger, now i find it rediculously humourous.
@RevolutionaryJam Letters? Surely you jest. Power is not relinquished because the victims beg. The source must be removed. The people's taxes and co-operation keep government going. If they don't revolt no change is possible, except when taxes stop because everyone is broke.
I think they're trying out their new auto-censor software, which will eventually be text-to-voice:d automatically. It's an efficient way to get the statist message out to anarchists. To have Stefan Molyneaux telling everyone things like "Washington has its faults - the snow and ice".
That IS funny! Speaking of mainstream media, how about CNN recently telling listeners that "communism has been good for women." I like sick humor every once in a while, but these things sure are no joke.
the economist isnt a bad magazine for economic news and they have some great writers (some are even austrian... i know :O), but it is few and far between.
reading the economist is like picking dollars out of shit.
"Satisfying women about sex discrimination lawsuits" - Don't you mean satisfying LAWYERS? Because I'll bet you dollars to donuts (remember when that was really good odds?) that more lawyer money went into supportiing that bill than feminist money.
It seems like a matter for concern that obvious contradictions are seriously considered as facts in the msm, and that the readership puts up with this. -- It isn't even particularly the case that stupid mindless people read the economist.
No Individualism 101 it's not a matter of concern that obvious contradictions are seriously considered as facts in the msm. What's a matter of concern is that this has been going on for DECADES and shows no sign of stopping. That's the matter for concern.
I'd guess they were always apparent to honest, logical thinkers; but now the internet makes it possible to uncover the falsehoods and tell the truth to many.
here in Keene, NH there was a panel discussion where a few elites stood on stage and talked about what the community could do to turn things around. It was an astounding interaction to say the least. The most ludicrous thing I heard that night, was from a professor of economics. He suggested that the government should pay people to dig ditches, burying money and then pay people to dig up the money! And that type of thinking was going to create jobs. He said the government hasn't spent enough!
Absolutely right on Stef!!! Of course the Economist rag approves and support the US government cause most of their subscribers are very well off politicians and corrupt businessmen that want to maintain the status quo.
Voting privileges without some merit as prerequisite was the beginning of the end. Without some voting prerequisites to ensure quality decision makers, any system that intends to use democracy to get quality decisions is an impossibility. Ironically, universal suffrage is incompatible with long-term freedom!
after the JFK, RFK and MLK assassinations america turn the corner and fell into an abyss from which they will never emerge as they once were. dumber by the day and poorer by the minute. the political system has been hijacked by the corporations and lobbyists. the military industrial complex has morally bankrupted the country, they are nothing but walking zombies.
Yep, America is like a parachutist without a parachut, falling down to earth...who shouts to the crowd in the plane (=the world economie that is almost crashing):
God that was self-indulgent. I wish I could rate the (useful) last 90 seconds separately.
I asked Chomsky once whether there were actually any objective news sources out there. He said no, & that the key is not to reject one and rely on another, but rather to read/watrch widely (including mainstream media) because it's only in the comparison that patterns, biases and inaccuracies became apparent. It was good advice, even if I agree with you that some news sources make your brain hurt.
I loved this video, as I do Stef's others. Mainly, the reason I'm commenting is to boost this video's ratings.
By the way, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. This damned new "autoplay the next video" YouTube feature is driving me crazy. How do I set it to default to "off" instead of "on"? Having to find the button and click it off every time is heinously bogus. Extremely annoying and waste of time. I'm seriously considering abandoning YouTube and going back to LiveVideo
Install firefox there are PLENTY of useful add-ons on their site & among them few block youtube auto-run not to mention those that block publicity or remove images one doesn't like
Thanks for the reply. I have been a long-time Firefox user, and I will check out their add-ons. I use the ad-blocker add-on, (it works well for me), but it didn't occur to me to check for an add-on which would subvert the new YouTube "auto-play the next video" feature. Thanks for the tip.
@TeslaGenius yes , uk has loads of sattire which laughs at these issues , which doesnt help to expose the seriousness or the opportunities to change it.
yes, to them all is fine. we are in a jobless recovery. since a jobless recovery has never happened before, most people don't know what that is. A jobless recovery is when banks and wallstreet have lots of money and the unemployment lines continue to grow for most Americans. so, it's pretty simple. maybe easier to state that the rich get richer and the poor get even less than nothing.
The problem with cynicism, as Zizek explains, is that its point of departure is a belief in self-enlightenment vis-à-vis everyone else who is just wrong.
This video reminds me of a fundamental aspect of keynesianism that is quite ridiculous: by the keynesian account, "countercyclical policy" via government spending is good for the working class (provides jobs) and for the entrepeneurs (avoids bankruptcy). And since they are government programs, also good for government workers and politicians. In other words, it's good for everyone! One wonders then why people don't clamor for countercyclical policy on the streets.
Excellent video! I appreciate your remarks. I'm an accountant and studied economics in college. I listen occasionally to mainstream media sources and feel the same as you. Much of the analysis is just ludicrous. Thanks for posting! RJ
And in just eight months we'll have the opportunity to go to the polls and vote in the most critical mid-term election of our lifetimes (because it always is) for either more of the same or pretty much more of the same.
I just went out for breakfast and coffee. I had the displeasure of reading the local newspaper while I ate.
