  • Fantastic playing, great guitar and you look beautiful!

Please tell me how you learned to play like this. I have tried the alternate base note thing many times, but just can't get my thumb to be "independent". Any special drills or easier songs you can recommend?

Thanks for putting this and your other videos on YouTube - I'll keep coming back.

  • are you tuned down?

  • Open G tuning. It may be sharp or flat. I didn't have a tuner with me.

  • @busker12 ah. thank you.

  • are you tuned down?

  • are you tuned down?

  • are you tuned down?

  • Flawlessly played! But I miss the sound of the Gretsch Filter-trons. To my ears, they beat the cold sounding Gibson hums every day of the week. Not a popular opinion, I know, but I've been playing 45 years, and I'm entitled to my opinion. But again - GREAT playing!

  • @MelosAntropon : Ooops - on second glance, it's a P-90! Duh. But I still like the Filter-trons.

  • wow you rock that gibson .and its a right thing to

  • Great tune and played really well. Thanks for posting this.

  • sorry folks but Leo did Not write Black Mt Rag, It's an old fiddle tune written probably before Leo was born. Good job on chet's arrangement though. Saw a couple of her other vids. VERY nice playing.

  • Macyn your playing just keeps getting better and better all the time. I enjoyed this video a lot. That must be a "dairyland" tractor in the background :) Where did you get that Gibson? Pretty nice. Best wishes to you.

    ~Bob

  • I got this guitar from the father of a deceased Vietnam War veteran. It was his son’s. Captain Ronald Alan Ross was killed in battle on October 31, 1969. I played this guitar at a veteran’s memorial dedication in his home town with an actual rubbing from the wall displayed on the guitar. Not a dry eye in the park. I have physical possession of this guitar, but spiritual ownership is still the Captain’s.

  • @busker12 Oh, that is so very special, Macyn. Thank you so much for passing along this info. What a treasure you have and it is meaningful to me, too. I was sailing around Vietnam on a Navy ship when Captain Ross was killed (yes, I'm THAT old).

  • Another job well done Macyn!!

  • That's awesome the look the sound the background the guitar and you - well done to you and the cameraman

  • SweeeeeeT !!!! and finally a piece with an electric guitar, nicely produced GREAT background , and this time the camera person got the before and after smile !!!

  • Hi Macyn, always great to see new guitar work from you! Very nice Gibson archtop you have there. Gonne rewind and play again, can't get enough. Any plans to travel to Europe?

  • Great playing :-)

  • Is it just me...or are you getting cuter and cuter with age?

    Oh yeah...great playing too!!!

  • I've enjoyed lots of your videos, but maybe none so much as this one- Everything about this is delightful!

  • Love that sweet steel sound, keep up the good work.

  • Nice Video Macyn...looks like you are having fun :-).

...But for me,the music lacks dianamics and tone variation in the right hand.

    Busk on !

    Simon

  • Macyn, you are a fantastic player! You can tell in your playing that you love what you do.

  • So cool Macyn! Haha, a tractor is seen driving by in the reflection in the window at about 1:35...couldn't be more perfect!

  • Hey Macyn you'er getting to my heart now,,one of my favorite tunes,,I love it ...KOP...your friend ..Bill

  • "Black Mountain Rag" is actually an amalgam of the first half of Keith's "Black Mountain Blues" with the second half of his "Clinch Mountain Blues." According to Keith, another fiddler put the two half-tunes together because he couldn't play the second half of "Black Mountain Blues."

I have recordings of both original tunes on a long-ago vinyl LP, the only one Leslie Keith ever made.

  • hi, Macyn awesome playing! & electric!

    thx!! "beautiful", & you!!

  • The busker goes electric! Sweet! I've loved your work since I found you on here a couple years ago. You are brilliant, so keep it up!
