  • Thanks for sharing the good ideas.

  • Really appreciate those ....thank you!

  • thanks!

  • I will try that but not today. I've too much songs that are incomplete xD.

  • thank you

  • This is so helpful, thanks!

  • levels-avicii, irresistible melody

  • Awesomeeeee! check out my channel and give me some personal tips on my music! thankksssss

  • Extremely helpful before even trying to use them, Subscribed, Thank you :)

  • Thank you for this. You have some really good ideas and I can already sense that they will help my music grow. I appreciate it!

  • Great tips!

  • Thanks for your help.

    This helped a lot.

  • @sn1perfection I'm ctfu at how random this is!

  • Thanks a bunch!

  • In Country songwriting, I've notice that using two or three selectional restriction violations with kinesthetic predicates in the first verse really pulls the unconscious mind into the song and into the altered state the song intends to create in the listener. The use of alternating visual and kinestetic predicates between the verses and chorus is a useful technique for creating a contrast of disassociation and association to an emotion.

  • @Ebo9508 Prime example...."She thinks my tractor's sexy"...Even though the song is silly, it was a hit and follows your statement above. Thanks for breaking it down for me!

  • This helped me a lot thanks! (:

  • I think I love you for this.

  • This is the part I absolutely HATE about writing songs. The melody. I have no way of recording them down, and then I always forget it later. It pisses me off.

  • @Silvericewarriorcats you can write the notes on manuscrpit

  • @Silvericewarriorcats

TBH if you forget a melody it is usually a sign that it isn't good.Don't be put of by this. Keep writing melodies and the ones you remember will be the good ones. This worked out pretty well for The Beatles :)

  • Wow best melody tips ever!;) Also another tip of the late great Kurt Cobain (nirvana) is melody first, then lyrics. The lyrics can b random lines of poetry as long as they rhyme, but feeling comes from the actual music/melody, not words.

  • Don't be a hack. sing from your heart.

  • Hahaha,

I'll Try To Stop Being So Pestimistic About My Rythems Now.

    LMAO.

    But I Don't Know.

I Judge Them Negatively Because I Want To Make The Song Even Bigger Then What I Originally Come Up With.

    :P

  • thank you broooo

  • AWESOME!

  • So you want me to shower a lot. Hmm. You could knock out two problems there.

  • I commute an hour each way to work and I'm always late cuz I'm constantly pulling over and writing down lyrics

  • iPhone rules

  • Thank You.

    Great Tutorial.

  • I've spent the whole day trying to record some songs. Everything I make is so generic and rubbish. :'(

  • @danielspital its your space turn a black light on or hang art up make sure your room isnt a sad color like white and listen to songs you wanna sound like mine is blink 182 and i listen to blink for hours trying to see what they do then ill get a good line in the shower and ill build around it i have bad flow though i cannot transition verse to chorus and what not and try to freestyle lyrics i freestyle all the time and some sound good and some suck youll get it

  • @DECIFERTHIS09 Blink 182 are awesome. Thanks for the advice and good luck with your song writing!

  • @danielspital I tend to have the same problem, What I figured i should do is just listen to alot of music you like and in the genre you'd like your melody to link in with and sing or hum along alot and then just try and bend their melodies slightly and try cutting pieces from each song and try and glue them together and see what happens. :)

  • i find monday mornings easy to think of things cause people at schoold usally are tired and its easy to write songs about what there doing lol

  • I got an incredible melody the other day, 15 minutes into class. So I just played it over and over in my head until the class ended and recorded it on my phone.

That piece of crap phone finally paid off!

  • Great Vid, thanks!

  • I made a wonderful tune while watching this vid. By the time I finished writing that last sentence I forgot it.....

  • does anyone else create great melodies like 2 minutes before they fall asleep??

  • @TheSimplestThing I do...almost everynyt...make a new full song wid d chord struct n melody n sometyms lyrics too, ( n guitar solo's too ;) )....dreaming of a rockin stage perf..but end up falllin asleep widout rememberin a thing wen i wake up d nxt day :(

  • @TheSimplestThing I just did. Welcome to Eb minor.

  • @TheSimplestThing f**k me I drag myself outa bed almost every night to put pen to paper, whats that about!!!

  • @TheSimplestThing That's so ridiculously true!

  • @TheSimplestThing every day!

  • @TheSimplestThing every night! so frustrating!

  • @TheSimplestThing Better yet, having a riff stuck in your head, but an instrument is nowhere in sight!

  • I get great ideas when I,m driving. I take portable recording device with me and leave it on for the whole journey. It does make for painful listening afterwards, but it has paid of with some good ideas.

  • Hangover.. :)

  • its irresistible lol with an e

  • People don't pull over to the side of the road, they pull out their smart phones, use shazam or soundhound and if that doesnt work go to google and type in some of the lyrics (all while driving of course) then maybe text a few friends to see if they know.

  • @erikmichaelrichey Um, no. I have a pretty sporadic schedule so there's no "shower time frame". And the idea that my brain has a melody sprouting schedule is sort of ridiculous.

  • Things that give me ideas are searching for items in a store, in the car riding somewhere, and in the middle of class.

  • I had a good melody in my dream. Too bad I couldn't remember it.

  • Really nice! ;)

  • I`ve just watched Immortal Beloved about Beethoven(my favorite composer of all time-gotta argue about Mozart, lol ;) and the last tip from this video is mentioned in the movie itself. It`s the part where Beethoven describes a piece of his to his secretary saying: "This is the sound of man, who is late for a meeting with his lover...This is the sound of agitation" and he actually was referring to a story from his life, well, from the movie`s perspective anyway! Thanks for the tips!

  • iphones are shit

  • TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE CREATIVE SPACE IT IS MANDATORY FOR CREATIVITY.

you must feel totally free and safe from criticism for real art to have room to flow.

you have to enter that child like state of being, fee from care and totally in the moment.

  • wow this is exactly what I have been doing for years!!

  • thank you

  • i utilize technique #2 all the time and still get writer's block maybe i'll try #3

  • this video is fuckin awesome

  • Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately a few times I got melodies while I was sleeping and I wanted to remember them when I woke up. Unfortunately that didn't happen. :(

  • Chears Mate This is realy Good Advice Helps alot your a Champion

  • thanks! good tips!

  • I have my best ideas when I am sleeping but when I wae up and try to record it I forget what the melody was. Also,on some occasions, get the whole song with rythm, lead, and lyrics. I tried to have a notebook next to me when I sleep but I forget the song,or melody, when I wake up.

  • reberb! xD yeah i had a dream and played a melody with my guitar but well it wasn't so good xD

  • I get amazing ideas when noone can hear and when its quite around me

  • Hey Geoff,

I'm just curious about something: This technique you're using- are you suggesting humming the melody ideas 'a cappella', or are do you hum them while playing your instrument?

  • 5:10 yes, I do then I forget.... and I use my iPod but I get in trouble!! (I'm still in school usually when it comes to me) help?

  • @AlicexBrandonxCullen Keep the ipod in your pocket when you get into class and when an idea pops up ask to go to the bathroom.

  • @AlicexBrandonxCullen Same fucking problem! They ALWAYS hit me in german class and I'm like "Green Day...eat your heart out" and then the bell goes I it leaves me!

  • great tips man

  • what mic do you use for recording?

  • very helpful

  • lol reberb

  • Thanks for these tips I usually have ten million ideas but no structure you created somewhat of a road map and that helps people like me with no structure.

  • wow, never heard of brainstorming before?

  • I get amazing ideas in the shower...which is kind of bad because I never have a way to write it down or record it. I've lost so many ideas that way.

  • a good idea should stick on your mind right away... i say

  • Buy a cheap voice recorder and hum the melody. Works for me and i have 100's of recordings now.

  • @samanthalynn6790 Literally right down the drain eh?

  • @samanthalynn6790 LOL same !!! xD

  • @samanthalynn6790 same I get these amazing lyrics that I LOVE and then I get out and I'm like "...what was that?"

  • @samanthalynn6790 Bring a recording device into the bathroom, lay down a mat by the shower to soad up any access water, and whenever you get an idea step out of the shower onto the mat and record it.

  • @samanthalynn6790 wow im exactly the same

  • @samanthalynn6790 i do that alot but i think to myself if i can't remember next day how will anyone else remember it :)

  • @samanthalynn6790 Me too:(

  • @samanthalynn6790 you just read my fucking mind.

  • @samanthalynn6790 Same here buddy It fucking sucks...I write songs :) And Its hard for me to make the melody, its the hardest part for me...I finally come up with one and FUCK I forget it -.- lol

  • @scarli100 If you forget it then that means it wasn't that good

  • @samanthalynn6790 if i had a fucking nickel

  • @samanthalynn6790 omg! me too!!

  • @samanthalynn6790

I sometimes hum and beat box into my mp3 player, etc. to capture an idea. My cellular phone also has a recorder built into it. I try to not lose the music in my head! You can purchase a voice recorder for $50 or less.

  • @samanthalynn6790 I too have great ideas in the shower...which is kind of bad because I never take a shower. =( I've lost so many ideas that way

  • @samanthalynn6790 The solution is simple. Put a record devide near you when you are singing. : )

  • @samanthalynn6790

maybe get a water proof board to put it in your shower

  • @samanthalynn6790 i brought a mic into my bathroom to get my ideas down but i didnt get much because i knew it was there

  • @samanthalynn6790 jot down a couple of lines on the shower screen fingay when it has condensed up and gt a peice of paper later and write it down. i fink this woks :P

  • @samanthalynn6790 thats why i have a water proof peice of paper:)
