Dokken was an awesome band of the time and here's the proof. Their image costume wise was borderline horrble! I'm talking about the early records. Almost as bad as twisted sister or enuffs n nuff at times. But people knew good guitar playing and song writing then, so they were still one of the bands close to the top. Ratt dressed just as bad, but had the same chops dokken did so they kicked ass as well.. I will always listen to good hair metal!!!!

What alot of people don't understand is things were alot more conservative back then. Today, the media, art, music are all in your face and so over the top that nothing's shocking anymore, but back in the 80s there was still some innocence. The hair bands were getting attention for themselves and shocking parents and the establishment with their outrageous get ups. It was marketing. In 20 yrs they'll look back and laugh at the rappers too...but their music won't stand the test of time like this!

@davedropd1 Lynch once said a big reason DOKKEN never hit "bigger" (ie arena HEADLINERS) was that image wise , they played "follow the leader"...the leader being CRUE....Dokkens manager was like "you guys should wear jeans, boots, and have a more "street" look...(which no LA bands at the time were doing) the guys in DOKKEN were like (this is Lynch speaking) "No way, man!!! Crue's wearing pink-polka dots, we want pink polka dots!!!! WE want the same hairspray!!!!"

@SpikeMichaels The one I saw is where don confessed he was insisting on the costumes, and later he admitted it was an error.... but lynch's playing and the good songs prab saved them....then again everyone was doing it, (ratt, g. white etc) record lablels and mangers have a strong pull as well..... lynch's strength is in soloing he's not an impressive rhythm player like Jake E lee is....beast from the east is an amazing live record.......

Dokken was musicly a great band that was just cursed by a few things. The main one being the relationship of don and george. The fact that this record was so awesome. And they only were able to do a video for one of the worst songs on the record "burning like a flame" just proves my point. But I still always loved their music...

Dokken has more talent as muscians. Poison (with respect) were "prettier". Dokken is known more for their music and riffs. They weren't the typical hair band like Poison. Poison was more pop music. Dokken is hard rock in my opinion.
