This is like one of the best songs Ive ever heard of my 22 years of being on earth. That end guitar solo just gives me the chills around 4:22, such sick guitar tone.
My favorite note is from 2:53 to 2:55. Just listen to how much he's getting out of that one single note. He worms it right into your brain with that nasty horizontal vibrato. Here's this incredible fast lick, and if that doesn't blow your mind I'll finish it off with a single fat note that you can't possible ignore cuz I'm sticking it RIGHT IN YOUR FACE!
Not a good rhythm player???? Really?? He's a freaking genius lol. Jake is a great guitarist as well but IMO George is at the very least as good if not better than Jake has ever been.
the picture @ 3:55 looks like their gona receive some cock up their ass in prison... kinda funny how back in they 80's bands dressed up like hookers lol... but hey these guys made some of the best material back in the day
I still got the cassette with this song in it. I remember listening to this song on my walkman riding on my BMX with my friends. 80's heavymetal ROCKS!!
@gmx101 omg dude thats so funny me too...this and all the VH shit, Ratt........I had a Kuahara and a Redline and a Haro at one time.....you must be in your 30's.......
Lynch's tone on the opening chords of this song is RIPPIN'!! And his fills and leads kick ass. I love the sustaining lines with the harmonic feedback. Lynch just rules!!
of course their songs and skills are what make them great, but for the record, their clothes are still better than anything modern 'rockers' wear today. bandannas and leather jackets will always be cool, and baggy pants and sideways hats will always be lame as shit.
can't understand why they didn't do a video for this song or prisoner? Hell they did one for burning like a flame. I'm sure cause it's the most commerical, and not one of my fav songs for that reason....
You can see Dokken bassist Jeff Pilson playing with Foreigner on tour -- awesome. They are in Europe now and will be back in the states in August. New album due out the end of this year/first of next year! Brian Tichy (Billy Idol) on drums; Kelly Hanson (Hurricane) vocals; Michael Bluestein (keyboards); Thom Gimbel, sax, guitar, flute; and the incomparable Foreigner founder Mick Jones -- lead guitar, vocals, keyboards. They rock better than ever -- Jeff is awesome -- they all are!
Dokken was an awesome band of the time and here's the proof. Their image costume wise was borderline horrble! I'm talking about the early records. Almost as bad as twisted sister or enuffs n nuff at times. But people knew good guitar playing and song writing then, so they were still one of the bands close to the top. Ratt dressed just as bad, but had the same chops dokken did so they kicked ass as well.. I will always listen to good hair metal!!!!
What alot of people don't understand is things were alot more conservative back then. Today, the media, art, music are all in your face and so over the top that nothing's shocking anymore, but back in the 80s there was still some innocence. The hair bands were getting attention for themselves and shocking parents and the establishment with their outrageous get ups. It was marketing. In 20 yrs they'll look back and laugh at the rappers too...but their music won't stand the test of time like this!
@davedropd1 Lynch once said a big reason DOKKEN never hit "bigger" (ie arena HEADLINERS) was that image wise , they played "follow the leader"...the leader being CRUE....Dokkens manager was like "you guys should wear jeans, boots, and have a more "street" look...(which no LA bands at the time were doing) the guys in DOKKEN were like (this is Lynch speaking) "No way, man!!! Crue's wearing pink-polka dots, we want pink polka dots!!!! WE want the same hairspray!!!!"
@SpikeMichaels The one I saw is where don confessed he was insisting on the costumes, and later he admitted it was an error.... but lynch's playing and the good songs prab saved them....then again everyone was doing it, (ratt, g. white etc) record lablels and mangers have a strong pull as well..... lynch's strength is in soloing he's not an impressive rhythm player like Jake E lee is....beast from the east is an amazing live record.......
@davedropd1 The 80's were'nt about image like some people try to say. The 90s forward has been about image over quality. But I totally agree. Music from the 1970s and 1980s was kick ass and Dokken were right there kickin it with the best of them. \m/ \m/

Dokken was musicly a great band that was just cursed by a few things. The main one being the relationship of don and george. The fact that this record was so awesome. And they only were able to do a video for one of the worst songs on the record "burning like a flame" just proves my point. But I still always loved their music...
yeah i agree.the glam era made it all happen too.whether it's glam or pop or whatever a lot of them made up the metal world in the 80s.RATT, MOTLEY,POISON,WHITESNAKE,CINDERELLA,DOKKEN,
GREAT WHITE,WASP,KINGDOM COME,TESLA,BRITNY FOX,DANGEROUS TOYS,MAIDEN,OZZY,WHITE LION,FASTER PUSSYCAT,GN'R,LOUDNESS,LA GUNS,SLAYER,MEGADETH,QUEENSRYCHE ,WOW! the list goes on.after all it's the 80s.these days metal sucks!
this song is just awesome, i play in a 80s tribute band and we play alot of dokken, i listen to this song everytime i get ready to play shows, it gets my blood pumping like crazy,
Dokken has more talent as muscians. Poison (with respect) were "prettier". Dokken is known more for their music and riffs. They weren't the typical hair band like Poison. Poison was more pop music. Dokken is hard rock in my opinion.

It's bad enough being under control Same thing every day Then at night There's a place we can go Where nothing can stand in our way Night by night I can't keep it away Night by night Not living for the day Night by night It's now or never So baby can't you see We're living night by night It's just you and me Living night by night
