  • great enjoyable version, thanks

  • For my money, I haven't heard a better singing of this than John Mc Dermott's rendition for a man's voice, or Renee Flemming's for a woman's. [although I've not heard Joan Sutherland's which I see here, but am about to!]...

  • Please, anyone, do you know which singer has the public domain version of this movie or how could I get rights to put it into a short film (with no money intentions!) Thanks!!

  • excellente!!!!! I like this version most!

  • Wait, so Celtic Woman DIDN'T make this song? Did they steal it, if they didn't write it? Do they even make their own songs?

  • @Kingcobrasaurus Celtic Woman didn't write ONE of the songs they've recorded! They simply sing old Irish songs made famous by the likes of Clannad! As a matter of fact, they covered 2 Enya songs (May It Be and Orinocco Flow) and Harry's Game by Clannad. Celtic Woman are just a bunch of pretty girls with nice voices, THAT IS ALL. They haven't written one song!

  • @Kingcobrasaurus The Last Rose of Summer was written by the Irish poet Thomas More in 1805. Celtic Woman don't write any of their songs. They are usually old traditional Irish songs or songs by Clannad or Enya..

  • @Kingcobrasaurus Celtic Woman are a group of very talented Irish singers with even greater success in front of them . They have NOT stolen this song ,Just done a cover of it ,& a very good one at that . I hope you enjoy it .

  • @gameball2003 Actually, this wasn't even a song to begin with. It's a poem from 1805. It was first turned into a song in 1807 - and has pretty much kept the same beautiful and touching melody for 200+ years, no matter who covers it.

Artists today can't touch masterpieces like this, no matter how hard they "try".

  • @Kingcobrasaurus The words are a poem by Irish poet Thomas Moore.

  • JUDAS PREIST!!

  • i love their music

  • Lovely voice and music. Thanks Mike!

  • I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this

  • @Cookiemonster341

That is a perfectly proper pronunciation of poetic English. Especially for that era. The same with "wind" pronounced as WYe-nd.

The fact that you consider this pronunciation makes this a "bad version" tells us more about you than you want people to know.

There is ALWAYS one asshole on YouTube who doesn't know anything and makes sure we all know it.

  • @Rajamuttu Check the version of Celtic Woman, they pronounce it right in my opinion.

  • @Cookiemonster341

Celtic Women modernized the performance style of Irish music, the added harmonies - which is totally non-traditional, so they also modernized the old pronunciation.

Since when did YOU become an expert on how English poetical verse was pronounced in 1805?

  • @Cookiemonster341 You haven't a clue about Irish music quite obviously!

  • @Sportymike Well okay... on a second thought, I regret my comment. Per se it is NOT a bad version, it is just not my taste of the way I would like this piece of music to be interpreted. I'm sorry for my comment above. :-)

  • @Sportymike most Americans have no idea about genuine Irish music, just the Mc Music they mass- produce.

    I prefer this anyday.

  • @Cookiemonster341 You'll have to do better than that.

  • Very nice early Clannad work ! Thanks Sportymike ! Phalaïna

  • W Enya...I remember you in Genoa..1976..and all the clannad...beatiful

  • Wow... this proves what I thought was an impossibility: Enya was once an amateur. Holy COW has she improved!!!

  • Judas Priest' version is much better...lol.

  • 泣けて泣けてしょうがない。

  • Lovely version. Tá sé go hálainn ar fad.

  • sure is quite different from the operatic version and will take a bit of getting used to.

Wonder what the true original version sounded like when it was written.

    This one is interesting indeed.

    Thank you for posting SPORTYMIKE

  • @incaalpaca Probably not with music as it was a poem

  • Wow.
