its not boiling its new air being sucked in by low pressure from cooled air due to ice.

The flask is sealed. The demonstration will also work if the flask is right side up and the ice is rubbed on the sides. The water will still boil yet there is only solid glass surrounding the water- no place for air to suck in.

no, if you lower the pressure you can lower the boiling point, you can make water boil at room temp!!! if you have a vacume pump
