Words seem for me to be so inadequate in using to try and describe how great the music and musicians are that I have witnessed on "LFDH"! All their music demonstrates that they excell with God given talent and ability to evoke feelings and emotions in my opinion that words cannot!!! "LFDH" has exposed me to a wide and diverse varity of musicians that otherwise I might have missed and for that Mr.Hall I respectfullyTHANK YOU! Goes to show that you can still teach and old broad a new thing or two!
Pat covers this song beautifully. It is a tribute to Daryl - that this song is so well written. And I agree that Daryl has nothing to prove to anyone. If you watch more of the LFDH, you'll see that all the artists cover Daryl's songs and interpret them in their own styles. That's the beauty of it. Daryl is not only a great performer, but a great songwriter. And his songs have stood the test of time, making them classics.
What I wouldn't do to sing with this band. I would show them more soul then they have ever known. I would and I would again. But...it is all good. Just Jim
I don't understand why people have to say who did it better....I just love this version. The harmonies, Daryl Hall, Pat Monahan, and the band Music is good for the soul...I'm a Hall and Oates fan, but also a Train fan.
In an interview Pat said this was one of the most nervous performances of his career. I wish the person who uploaded this had the respect for Hall that Pat has. Daryl Hall doesn't do this to have comparisons between artists. He does this show because he loves jammin' with talented people. Also Daryl Hall is a legend, he has nothing to prove to anyone. And yes, I'm a Hall & Oates fan and a Train fan.
@MusicfaninMO couldn't agree more. i think some of the younger crowd these days are utterly clueless at how influential Daryl Hall (and Hall and Oates) has been to musicians over the decades...I can definitely hear some Daryl in Pat Monahan's vocals. i absolutely love Daryl's show - from the musicians he invites, to the scenes about the food they are going to eat, to the conversations....so very cool that he lets us have an insight into some of these truly amazing jam sessions.
@MusicfaninMO I didn't take the OP's comment as a slight to Daryl at all. I took it to mean that Pat really made the song his own. This song will be forever associated with Hall & Oates, to be sure...but that doesn't mean that Mr. Monahan can't sing the hell out of it as well. He did! I for one love to hear artists' interpretation of other artists' classic tunes, as long as they can do them justice. In this case I'd say Pat hit a home run. And I'll bet Daryl Hall enjoyed it too!
The guy sharing the lead vocals is just 'OK' in my opinion..the difference I guess, is that Daryl sings it like he has lived it...and I guess he has...lots of urgency and emotion in his vocals. In my opinion, this is what brings this song in to focus..the vocal urgency in his voice.
Probably has to be one of my favoritest songs by Hall and Oates, and the soul behind this just reminds me of how very much I love this song! Thanks so very much for the joy you bring!
History will mark Daryl as one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. The original's good but this just took it to another dimension. Great to see them still having fun and sounding great.
Long time fan of Daryl's. Thought he OWNED this song, but Pat gave him a run for his money - and I'm not particularly a Train fan. Both of them together on this was breathtaking.
Again, as I have said before, I keep listening over and over and over again. This is just DAMN beautiful. Gives me chills. Especially when they hit the "lalalalala's" oooooo chills
Ok.....So this is Daryl's song, but Pat blew it out of the ball park, the two of them on this song is sooooooo amazing....Daryl is 65??? Damn...hot to me stil...I wish I could see more of these two together....I keep hitting replay~replay~replay~I love you guys !!!! ~<3~
Not a big Train fan, but Pat really knocked his vocals out of the park. Great harmonies and you could tell he gave it his all. This song takes me back to 80s. LFDH is the best thing to come along in the music industry.
You said it exactly. I am not a Train fan either but I love the emotion Pat shows and Daryl looks over at him like a proud parent (about 3:40). My respect for Pat went way up after seeing this performance.
I keep listenting to this song over and over again, my son moved to CA from PA to live with his Dad and this is dedicated to them with all my heart and soul....wish I could be with my family.
@Opinionator Darryl Hall looks and sounds 15 years younger. It certainly shows you that when one spends their life doing something they love, it has a positive effect on their health. Probably says a lot about his youthfulness.
Best rendition of this song ever. How can you not be wrenched by 2:35-3:35 and ending @ 4:05? The lyrics are so clear and poignant - "time is running out for the magic pair" "love is what is does and ours is doing nothing, but all the time we spent must be good for something" Thank you Darryl & Pat
I wish I was talented enough to sing this song to my girlfriend. The lyrics are so poignent, and the execution and emotion of this version with Pat and Daryl is better than 98% of what is played on the radio. Thank you, guys.
I have always been a Hall and Oates fan but for some reason had never heard this song before. How is that possible?? I had to listen to the original first and then came back to this one. Wow, this is freaking phenomenal!! I am a HUGE Pat M fan and listening to him plus Daryl is just.. simply... WOW!!!!
i fell asleep with the tv on the other night and when this song come on it completely woke my from a deep sleep. That's enough for me and it made me reflect on life and the one that didn't wait me. Yeah, got a little misty.
Always thought this would be a great song to re-release, especially now with all of our troups overseas and their loved ones waiting for them to come home......just a thought
Is it me or does Daryl sound better then he did in the 80's, god I miss the 80's so bad.they don't make music like that these days. Does anyone know if Daryl still does these At Daryls house and if so where do you find it ??? ANYBODY KNOW
I just keep coming back to this.....chill bumps every time. Love the look the guitar player (sorry I don't know his name) gives Pat when he starts singing.
Testament to a Great Song, I love it with Todd and with Pat. Been Singing it for 2 days. These songs need to be recorded so I can listen to them on my home system. Daryl has never been better
Memories of decades past and legends calling from the distance . . . a cigar, a glass of bourbon whiskey, and music I will feel in my soul forever . . .
Man! Someone commented that Pat sometimes sounds like Steve Perry (Journey) and I listened to Pat and Daryl and I got to wonder could Daryl Hit that range Perry had? I do say Pat who is magnificent has the highs but his voice is not as full as Daryls. What if both of them sang a Steve Perry song. A while ago I got the privileged to hear Roger Waters as the front man for Queen. Roger did it his way because he knew he wasn't Mercury. I would love to here you 2 guys sing a journey song.I Respect U.
Great compliment to a classic and beautiful song.... Hoping Daryl Hall continues to play music with all sorts of musicians...Gives people who don't know any better a chance to rediscover his great songs!!! Loving this.....
I've previously allowed my hatred of the unbelievably irritating "Hey Soul Sister" to cloud my judgement of Train. After watching this video, however, I'm totally on board - no pun intended.
@nhpm900 I've had the same feeling about Train over the years. "Meet Virginia" was their song I associated with the whole music scene some years ago. Their most popular songs have just been annoying. I've seen Pat sing other artists songs over the past couple years and have really learned to like him. Pat singing one of my favorite H&O songs has just been great.
This song is an amazing remake of the original. This is one of the best things to happen on youtube in a long time!!! Thanks for sharing the music....
@awesomeness1392 Hey Awesomeness! Yeah ain't this great music...music that's felt in the soul......get's me down on my knees...Daryl Hall is pne of those genius minds that leave a permanent mark...I love him.
i love daryl, but why has this been a ballad for the last 15 years? this was always one of my faves tho...oh well. there's always the original/live versions...
Truly Awesome version of this song - this is now the definitive version. Pat & Daryl - Just a fab vocal. Put it on I tunes - I want this on my Ipod!!!!
This song has aways been my fav from Hall and Oates...all of a sudden now it has become "ANGELIC"...I wish all my old buddies could hear this version. Pat...You ROCK!
stumbled upon this just now. the title caught my attention bec. i was a huge hall n oates fan during the 80s. which just reminded me... tomorrow is Daryl's bday - Oct. 11. :)
Pat did do well w/ Daryl's song (but I'm a huge Train fan) and Pat has a strong soulful voice. You should listen to Daryl singling W/ Pat on Train's "I'm not waiting in line"...it's absolutely awesome!
I'm not the biggest fan of Train, but Pat's vocal on this is sensational. And as a die-hard Hall & Oates fan, this is for me the best ever version of this song hands down. I listen to the original and it has nothing on the emotion or soul of this version. Daryl Hall is one of the all time greats. This should be a single!
Seit "she´s gone" aus den 70ern schon Fan von Hall & Oates ist das die schönste Version von "wait for me", meiner Meinung nach könnte nur Paolo Nutini die Stimme von Pat Monahan toppen.
I have been a Daryl fan since his War Babies album and I love Train. And the two of them together was just to good for words. I agree I never thought anyone would come close to TR and Daryl but Pat really showed me.
As much as I couldn't believe there could be a version as great as Daryl's and Todd R, Pat Monahan is definitely as emotional and incredible. Loved this version. It sounded so ethereal. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for posting. Loved this LFDH show.
Love it!!! Daryl still sounds AMAZING!!!

Hold on Mary! I love Patrick but this song is a signature Daryl Hall song and Patrick is trying his best to sound like him.

Pat did do well w/ Daryl's song (but I'm a huge Train fan) and Pat has a strong soulful voice. You should listen to Daryl singling W/ Pat on Train's "I'm not waiting in line"...it's absolutely awesome!

This is an incredible version of this song...

Home run. Great version of a 70s song

Music is about moments. The moment beginning 3:29 to the guitar solo is, well, a fine moment.
