Debt is held in treasury bills and are essentially IOU's. They are bought and sold constantly so you can't just not pay back china. You either pay back everyone or no one. The bottom line is that we as humans have needs, and the earth has resources and we have technology to fulfill those needs.

Or maybe if we pool our resources and technology we might be able to supply an abundance of all our needs, and also our wants.

What you're proposing amounts to theoretical socialism/communism, both of which -- on paper -- sound perfectly Utopian. What I am talking about is the OPPOSITE. Resources belong to everyone. When we eliminate the monetary system, share all resources and build automated sustainable systems for producing an ABUNDANCE of necessities of life- wars, crime, starvation will be GONE

I'll all for egalitarianism. I'm all for ending the wars, ending crime, starvation, and the like. But as long as there are those who have more than others, they will fight to keep this disparity.
