unfortunately there are many misunderstandings about Iran in the west. specially with the establishment of alqaea and taliban by invisible hands, the people in the west think Iranians are terrorists! but you wont find any Iranian citizen amongst terrorists!

Professor Frye is right, Iranian (Persian) culture had much more influence in the Islam than any other culture!

@Timsar81 Do not bother with people who just say things about anyone without knowing anything about the person. I met Dr. Fry in 1968 I guess in Shiraz when he was taking over where Dr. Pope had left of. He is a very intelligent man and very interesting to talk to. My wife and I had a long conversation with his wife as well. He just like Dr. Arthur Op-ham Pope and his wife Dr. Phyllis Ackreman Pope are people who really loved Iran.

They always refer to Iran as Near East, West Asia, Mesopotamia, or Eurasia but do not mention the word Iran. but when it comes to Greece, Israel, even Turkey(!!!)they are all mentioned with their names! It seems that Iran is a taboo word in North American universities even in Archaeology programs.
