@0puest0 The taliban wasn't involved in fighting the Russians. The Taliban was started by Mullah Omar in 1994. The Russians withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989. The US helped arm several groups of Muhjahadeen in Afghanistan against the USSR, none of which were "The Taliban."

I don't think anyone, the soviet union, the mujihideen, or the pakistanis thought that US funding was going to make things better. Btw the Pakistani are far far more guilty than we are. Even to this day they fund groups to kill their Afghan brothers. At least we stopped our funding, the Pakis never did.

There were 4 group fighting with Russians one was Masouds group the other Hekmatyar (today's Taliban) US was providing arms but only Talibans had the direct access to US arms and was backed by US.
