  • Gettin right tore in to that chicken, that is amazing. We did BLW with our youngest, started off with banana, spit out some of it at first but eventually she got the hang of it. Mmmm she is 10months now, not tried her with chicken yet :) xx

  • amazing! Love this! I just showed this to my mum who's a bit skeptical! This is our go to video! We are only on week one but my son loves exploring food so far he's had plum, potato, banana, rice cake!

  • Such a little oinker soooo adorable

  • This is a choking hazard you idiot. Why don't you feed them uncut hotdogs while your at it?

  • @vectorburg

If you knew something about blw you wouldnt be leaving this comment. Please read the rest of the comments and explanations below. It'll inform you a little more.

  • @MrMcgivern7 I don't think the concern is directed at the solid food so much as the bones left in the chicken. Bones can splinter, no matter how long they have been cooked, which can cause cuts in the mouth or worse if it ends up being swallowed. I think baby lead weaning is great, but I would never give my child meat with the bones left in at such a young age for this very reason. I don't think it would be too much work to pull it off the bone, just to be safe, but that's just me

  • @jseppi88 I kinda feel like that could happen at any age, what age is appropriate to give chicken on the bone to a child? By this stage she was very aware of what was going in her mouth. She's 30 months now and still loves chicken on the bone more than any other meat we feed her. Thanks for your post though.

  • Very scarY!!

  • My son is 9 months with 6 teeth and chokes on baby cookies i have to constantly watch him. I wouldnt have the courage to do this to him : / looks like lots of fun for the baby . Dont think blw is forever baby.

  • Is this a choking hazard?

  • @sawamendoza

Thanks for your question. This isnt a choking hazard at all. For more information on BLW see, other comments.

  • WOW! Going to town on that chicken!! My wife and I are interested in BLW for our 4 1/2 month old daughter. Do you have any tips or advice for us? How did it work out for you guys?

  • @TheFunnyrats

Hi there, thanks for you comments.

Tips....Oh goodness. I'd wait until your daughter is 6 months...or until she is showing definite signs that she is ready. Have you checked out the Gill Rapley BLW book? It helped us a lot before we started as we had no clue where to start, it also educated us about the gag reflex, etc, really put our mind at ease. Good Luck when you do start, its an amazing journey, one we are so glad we took. Now a toddler, food is one less thing to think about!

  • @MrMcgivern7 Thanks for the tips. I have not checked out the book yet. Seems like the only place I can find it is amazon. I need to order it. Is the cookbook worth getting also?

  • @TheFunnyrats

To be honest, we didnt get the cookbook and Im not sure if we would get it if we have another. Im not sure if it was out when we started though. We got our book on amazon...enjoy when it comes!!

  • Wow. Just starting to research BLW. Does this baby have teeth?

  • @HartFamily1017 she had 2 teeth on the bottom at this stage, if I can remember correctly...such a long time ago now. My daughter is 22 months old with a great appetite! :)

  • baby led weaning means well but #1 they'll start putting everything into their mouths & #2 it's a big time choking hazard. I hope parents who like to try these new gangeled things know the heimlich manuver quite well.

  • @Anglynn74

I have approved this comment as Im sure you aren't the only person who has these views about BLW. It can look scary if you aren't familiar with BLW, if you looked into it before posting this comment, you would learn that its a very safe way of feeding your child, safer than using a spoon and pureed food. BLW is not at all a new gangeled way of weaning, its been around for YEARS.

And just as a side note....ALL babies put EVERYTHING in their mouths, regardless of weaning method!

  • @Anglynn74

I agree with the video owner's response, but also, you do not use the heimlech manouvre with a 6-month old baby. With babies under one, you would do chest thrusts and back blows.

  • @mariana1982

    thanks for the support. :)

  • omg! she's soo cute.. we're starting blw for 5 days now, with pear and avocado, bebe (my baby) is 6 m 5 days now.. how long do u have to cook the chicken so it gets soft like that? did u put any ingridients in it? aaawwhh i wanna start with chicken soon......... :):):) kiss for your baby!!

  • @beataakila We just cook the chicken in the oven, as we would normally do for ourselves. Almost 2 and she still LOVES her chicken! :)

  • THIS IS THE CUTEST BABY EVER!!! :-)

  • @bananapancakes2011 Thank you!!!!

  • This is so funny !! THis video makes me want to try BLW with my son!

  • cuuute! this is the first time i havent been disgusted by someone eating meat off a bone! hahahaha waaaay too cute!

  • @BaileyFlys ahaha..that's hilariouse....me too

  • She is such a pro! She does this better than many adults I know:)

  • omg that was so cute!

  • @EverythingsRosiie Thanks, glad you enjoyed, hope it helps if you are going down the BLW route! :)

  • Great video! She loves that chicken!

  • Love it! How long had she been eating for? We've just started BLW and my daughter gags on everything. My heart stops every time it happens till she brings it back up.

  • @MrsDre9000 at this point i think we had been BLW for a few weeks. We were the same with the heart stopping...it takes time. You just have to trust the process... hope it goes well!

  • Thanks for your reply. It's just so different to see - as my mum used to babysit alot of babies when I was little and I remember often babies gagging badly on lumps of food such as apple or crusts so I grew up thinking how careful you had to be. After reading your other comments sounds like she really enjoyed her food and BLW process.

  • I was concerned at the size she swallowed whole. Does this not encourage lack of chewing as she has no teeth would she be learning to open up her oesphogus to much?

  • @ticketyboonz

Thanks for your comment. If I can remember back, she had 2 bottom teeth at this point. Nevertheless, she swallowed some foods whole but other foods she would keep in her mouth a while til it was soft enough to swallow. She didnt swallow anything that would give her problems, the gag reflex stops this from happening. (I think)

She is almost 14 mths now and has no problems with any food. She has 4 top teeth and 4 bottom and everything gets chewed before swallowed.

    Hope this helps.

  • thanks to your sweet baby..I decided to BLW right after seeing her eat. !! she is now our inspiration :)

  • Glad you're all enjoying the vid, our little monkey eats everything now...she's 11 months and a little muncher! :)

  • I love this video and have recommended it to so many of my friends who have doubts about BLW and guess what? after seeing this little angel munching away on her drumstick all of my friends have been converted! thanks for posting it! :)

  • LOL love this video! Was expecting to see a little one nibbling at some teeny cut up pieces of chicken! Very cute! Thanks for posting

  • She had been "eating" and managing food in her mouth for about a month at this point, she gums the chicken and softens it with her saliva before she swallows it. She has all sorts of food so we are confident that she is able to eat chicken the same way she does everything else. If its too large a piece to swallow she wont swallow it, she will keep it in her mouth longer or spit it out.

We have to be very patient, its not easy but the longer you do BLW the easier it becomes. Hope this helps.

  • @MrMcgivern7

Thank you for your response. My son has been going at his first foods recently, and I worry because he is SO enthusiastic about it. He hasn't had any issues, but my heart leaps into my throat anytime he manages to gum off a large chunk of something.

  • I was scared when she sucked in that chunk of chicken. Do you mind my asking, how did she manage to chew it so fast, and didn't you worry it was too large a piece?
