If you do the math, they do not save money in the long run. A traditional incandescent bulb lasts an estimated 1000 hours, a compact flourescent lasts and estimated 8000 hours. I can buy 8 traditional light bulbs for $2 less than a compact flourescent. Considering this you spend about the same amount of money. At the moment CFL's cost about $7 each where I live.
@LOOK4B very true, BUT, what means they're still going to remain $7 each? No incandescents, the CFL's will be the next cheapest one, so most people will buy those, meaning the price is almost guaranteed to go up.
