  • You should not be calling yourself a swahili teacher cause you seem to know very little. For instance, brocolly is burakuoli, the bowl on 1:27 is kaulo, basin is besheni, spagetty is makoloni you stupid idiot, orio cookies can be called biskuti nyeusi, 3:13 ugali is not made of powder but cornmeal. 3:35 peanut butter is siagi ya njugu, I agree some things only found in one country may have no swahili name but could always be reffered to something similar like dish washer can be mashini ya kuosha

  • hahaha you make my day keep more comming. lakini fanya utafiti wa kutosha coz most of ths thngs heve swahili names rafiki yangu..

  • TOO MANY HATERS ON THIS VIDEO WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN TO KENYA!!! They don't understand that most Kenyans use english a lot for things like "dish washer" etc. It doesn't matter if you don't know swahili, you can always tell what a Kenyan is talking cos they use a lot of English words.

  • Wee mkamba hata kuimba katitu hauwezi???? Wewe Ni mkamba wa ana gani.???????

  • Kiswahili kwa furaha! :)

  • Nice Ambition, but publicly saying negative comments about your government where u want people to visit is just unacceptable! God bless!

  • I don'tthink you are serious about teaching swahili. Your video leaves alot to be desired. please do your research before you emabrass yourself. Majority of the things you are stating hear are so incorrect

  • That's so nice. I grew up in East Africa, & wrote a book about it. You can see a short video on youtube. Just type in the name of my book - Speak Swahili, Dammit!

  • I thought sugar is sukari in swahili?

  • BROC oli , not bro COL i (emphasize the first syllable.) This can be confusing, because we say ba NA na (but we probably got that from you!)

Those big round 'maps' are called globes. (because of their shape).

Did your wife get mad? :D

  • @surferdudette19 thanks

  • Ugali was is very tasty .hehe

  • Dude nice effort in marketing your website. But a lot of all those items u said don't have names really do. Please Sugar is Sukari not Sugari. Dish washer - mashini ya kuosha vyombo e.t.c...e.t.c. But nice effort though.

  • @Mandazee911 Asante sana Ndugu yangu. Mungu bariki wewe

  • I love this language..after German XD But you speak it very well^^ Also, I'd like to hear the gummy bear song in this language

  • @dmenkhau Gummy bear song? Funny. What is gummy bear song about?

  • @MRMUTOONI

If you look up "Gummy Bear Song", you will see a green Gummy bear, animated. Click on that. It's just a little song about gummy bears, and they do it in the following languages: English, German, Hungarian, Brazilian, Swedish, Hebrew, and a few others I can't remember. It's really cute and funny.

  • @MRMUTOONI Gummy bears ;-P

  • @MRMUTOONI Ok gummy bear song? Very funny about gummy bear song. Let me find someone who knows about it.

  • Very interesting clip. For those interested in beyond street talk swahili, map is "ramani", but most people don't know this, so its OK to just say "map"

  • very informative video. i would only suggest to add subtitles so it"ll be easier to follow the pronunciation

  • Asante Sana!

    Kwa Heri

  • @JogaBonitofootball asante sana

  • Thanks very much( Asante sana) for your comments

  • .hi, i really like your videos because you do the things around the house or things that you would actually want to know.

i was born in kenya and knew kikuyu, nd swahili but now i dont even know it but i understand and can traslate it 100%.

  • This guy is sooo funny.

He's english pronunciation is just as brilliant as he's swahili pronounciation! - i therefore hope that no one from Tanzania watches this video...

    - supoon = kinjiko

    - a corn meal = hungali

    - a shower mbesin = mbesin ya kuoga

    - spangeti = spangeti has no swahili name

    - ...

hahaa, i just love this guy!!

  • 96 % of people who have commented negatively in my Swahili programs have no photo profiles. They are like terrorists who address the media covering their faces .

  • kon mio..lol

  • LOL Yea this guy's hilarious with the pronunciation. Swahili is my first language so this is quite amusing.

  • @Tons777 @ let me see what you have better than mine mr.know everything

  • thanks for your positive comments. My relative is in Swatzland (married there). She speaks some basic Zulu language

    Endelea kutia bidii mwalimu!

  • why is everyone so against this teacher? he's doing the best with what he's got, and he's giving lessons free! i don't expect to speak kiswahili fluently after watching his videos, but they're a great intro into a beautiful, complex language. thank you Mr. Mutooni!

  • All the people who have commented on me negatively here share two thing in common. They do not have a photo profile to identfy who they are. Secondly, many of them have been ripping off non swahili speakers by charging them money to teach them Swahili. These llosers cannot spare one minute to teach or to offer anything free. They are the bibilical Judas . They only critisize . They are devils, and they are bitter at themselves. When you are bitter at yourself , what do you expect?

  • Mother tongue influence is completely ruining this video...also, the dude can't spell. As much as I enjoy have "Ungali" and adding "Sugar- the same spelling- with the letter 'a'" to my tea, if your going to teach non-swahili speakers kiswahili, at least get a better teacher. Kudos for the attmpt tho...

  • thanks for your feedback. At least you made tea. I have received many critisism in my FREE swahili lessons. The funny thing is that my critics are people who pay more attention to tribal issues in Africa. Unfortunately i do not know my tribe. May be you know about my tribe. I am a kenyan who speak Kenyan swahili. By the way please would you mind commenting on my YOUTUBE videos under"EAST AFRICA TRAVEL SHOW"?

  • yo this is just hillarious dude stop fooling people! like you sait "dish washer" doesn't have swahili name name you are wrong and your swahili sounds like someone who is learning it! acha niviache nikisema nitasema mengi....anyways big up brother nice work well done!! :)

Hata hivyo inatubidi kuzungumza Kiswahili kizuri. Kila la heri huko Japan

  • Si kweli kwamba " swahili like has very short words" Hapa ninajua mwenzangu una maana ya " maneno machache". Vipi wajitose kwenye bahari wasioweza kuogelea? Ajabu!

  • Please get it from a majeno born mswahili. K

  • Rafiki yangu.

  • Thanks for your positive comments. Kiswahili iendelee. Goodluck in Japan. Asande kwa kunicorrect. mini nasomesha Swahili 101 not 400 level. I am greatful you added a wealth of information here than those who curse me and those who wish i can die during my sleep

  • Mwanamume mkenya anayeishi Tokyo Japan. Naelewa ramani (map) ya kenya barabara. Kukusahihishia hilo somo lako kiasi:

Map (ramani), Ungali (Ugali / sima), Kinjiko (Kijiko) Sungari (Sukari), Chumbi (chumvi), Mandizi (Ndizi), Basin (Ndoo), Manjani (Majani chai / chai), Powder / Ungali (Unga wa mahindi, Soup (Mchuzi / supu), Butter (siagi) etc.

You are very funny. Wapi picha yako. naona warembo wazungu wawili in your profile asanda sana

  • Bwana Nyerere hujambo? Mimi ni Mkenya aishiye Ujapani. Sina shaka Watanzania wanao ugwiji wa kunena Kiswahili. Lakini kamwe sitakubali jinsi ulivyo waumbua Wakenya haswa waishio bara.

  • Kwa kweli I apologize to you. I didn't mean to offend anyone in any way. It's just that from my understanding, most times, naweza kumuelewa Mkenya ambaye anatoka Mombasa kuliko yule alietokea elsewhere. I guess Kiswahili is no exception when it comes to languages and their countries. For example, British English is different from American English. Original French is different from the french spoken in Congo or say West Africa. So I guess Kiswahili is no exception. So I apologize for that.

  • Mr mutooni., there are many things i diagree with on your teaching,. it is to my knowledge that all those items u said had no kiswahili names do have names in swahili language, it might be a combination or words, kiswahili as a language cannot stand alone that is why there are so many borrowed words from various other languages. bantus had a big contribution to swahili build up, french, english, hindu, japanese, arabic a great deal., think of all the comunities of the coast during colonial rule

  • Please remember that this is Swahili 101 or basic Swahili language. Think this way. When you teach 4th grade about head do you teach them about the names of all the veins in the brain? You learn about brain anatomy in college or in medical school. Same thing here. This is YOUTUBE swahili not Harvard University swahili course

  • ...in any case, you'r doing a good job with that Tourist Advertising!! Good luck!!

  • I love your comments. Happy chrismass and New year. May be one day we teach this Swahili together

    LOve

    Mutooni

  • Merry X-Mas to you too!! and about Broccoli, [Broccolo] it is not English, not French, not Spanish, and not Arabic word, it is Italian word! but they all call it Broccoli including Swahili so, now you know!!

  • You'r not even close to a Swahili Professional, I am original Swahili so, do not lie to me! Mouse is (Kipanya), Monitor is (Bao), Tiles is (Vigae) Dishwasher-machine is (Kiosha-vyombo), how can you say, there is no Swahili word for a Map!? Tell me, what are these things: Ramani, Chujio, ndoo, Tambi, Unga, Siagi, majani ya chai and Kopo.

  • ...it is your Swahili that is very poor, but there is Swahili words for everything in that kitchen!!

  • Ramso007, take it from a Swahili Professional, 90% of Kitchen utensils have no Swahili words. look at these : Brocoli-no swahili word, computer mouse, computer monitor, plastic cups, dishwasher, tiles, and much more. Please read my limps-90% of kitchen items have no kiswahili words

  • MRMUTOONI eti unajiita "Swahili Professional"? Hata waswahili wenyewe hawadai hivyo seuze wewe?

  • MrMutooni, bananas sio MANDIZI. Bananas in plural and singular form is NDIZI. Simple as that. Kwanini waKenya hawa take Kiswahili seriously kama WaTanzania wanavyo take it? I mean kweli siwezi kuwasema wale wanaoishi Mombasa, kwasababu wale, they are FLUENT in Kiswahili kabisa. People should learn how to speak it the right way. In Congo, they speak it so much better than most Kenyans speak it. Vipi? niambie? I wanna know why!

  • Thanks for improving this Swahili 101. Keep uo. Coming soon Swahili teacher part 3

  • Thanks for your positive comments. Unfortunately we do not have Tanzanians teaching Swahili on YouTube. May be you can take the endevour and showcase your talent

Ewe! Aka!! Makubwa hayo!

  • I don't mean to offend anyone. MrMutooni has done a perfect job of teaching Swahili 101, or the Swahili basics of kitchen utensils, but beware. If you really seek a knowledgeable teacher to learn Swahili from, I suggest you go to a Tanzanian rather than a Kenyan. Kenyans are known to mess a lot of Swahili words up. They can communicate with us, but the mistakes they make in Swahili are obvious to the Tanzanian ear. We are more knowledgeable in Swahili, therefore, don't learn the wrong way.

  • jnyerere I do not wish to offend you too but you claims are baseless. I trully feel it when people just lump all Kenyans together as apertains to the knowledge of Kiswahili. People are oblivious of the fact that Kiswahili became known to the world through hundreds of manuscripts from along the Kenya Coast. I respect Zanzibar/Pemba and the Tanzanian coast when it comes to Kiswahili knowledge. But NOBODYwill tell me that some character from Ukerewe or Moshi can speak better Kiswahili than me.

  • I was wondering if Mwaniki is a common African last name and if you not could tell me what region, part, or tribe where they share the last name?

  • Mwaniki is a Mukamba as well as Kikuyu name. Mwniki means a person to keeps beehives for a living. It also means a man who likes having sex with women alot. Mwaniki wa aka ( A women lover) Mwaniki anikaa aka muno. Good luck with your Mwaniki and whatever you weant to do with Mwaniki and its meanings.

  • Nice kitchen by the way

  • Thanks

  • Thank you MRMUTOONI for your video, its very informative! My Kenyan friends keep telling me to visit Kenya, wish I could go one day, but kakuna pesa! hehe

In West Africa we also have something similar to the Ugali eaten by East Africans: we call it Fufu :)

  • Kenya yetu hakuna maatata!

  • BTW, who wants to learn Swahili? ..

Black people ain't going back to Africa, I presume.

And in Swahili, I was expecting some clicks..like names !bile..

  • @ kolonspy

You do know people travel around the world. It is called tourism.

Stay your ass in the projects selling crack

    and eating watermelon

  • @TallSkinnyCartman

i am not black! ..ha ha!..

you forgot to tell me to eat chicken too..

cartman?..you work at home depot! ..

i can buy and sell people like you, you jackass..

you are only worth 6 dollar 75 cents an hr! ..

  • @kolonspy

tell your mom I left her money on the microwave.

ps: I broke the rubber and bust a nut up in her...so how you feel about having another brother?

  • he he..

again!..you are so cheap, I can trade you...you son of a whore! slave! ....go drive your sorry ass cart..and beg as usual. slave! ..

that is why you don't have a middle name ..ha ha!..

  • Wewe. Wacha Mkamba. Hiyo ni accent yake exclusive tuu. Thats the Kikamba accent. Proud Kenyan Singh

  • wtf... i was laughing at this even though i cant speak swahili that much but my parents do... and this dude aint pronouncing words right... i can tell..

    ungali wtf.. its ugali dude..

did he say 'ALL YOUR COOKIES' i think its OREO dude..

ur teaching the wrong pronounciation*.... x

  • perhaps its a tribal or regional thing. But I remember learning some Swahili from a first generation Kenyan in the US (had only been in the US for about 2 years) and for several words (eg. ugali) there would be a nasal sound at the beginning, hence we would hear "ungali" instead of a literal pronounciation of "ugali." Also if I wrote down "ugali" for him to read, when he read it, to my ears it would sound like "ungali" (with nasal tone added to beginning).

  • Wewe nakuona hata kiswahili huijui.........Usijaribu kutia aibu eti lugha yetu ni pungufu......jifunze kabla ya kufunzana......Nakuona labda u Mkamba

  • Wewe natukana Mukamba, Mukamba na ronga wewe . Tabathali sema kitu nzuri na ujiathari na Mukamba sababu Mukamba ataroga wewe ama nikupindue uwe farasi.

  • Thanks. Soon i will post an improved Swahili lesson guide. Due by the end of August 2008

    Asante sana /Thanks a lot

  • habari za asubuhi? .... okay..when my parents go to KENYA..they come back and teach me random things. I love watchin this video..i'mma start watching everyday. THANKS

  • Youve run out of sugar Dude, you better get some more.

Hahaha, this is your brother from Nigeria.

We also have beautiful languages like Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ibibio, Tiv, Idoma, etc, about 250 languages, it is the source of the beauty of Nigeria.

Pls, visit the kenya site and you are welcome to see Nigeria videos.

I rate this video 5 stars.

  • Thanks alot. One of my best friend is married to a Nigerian. I love the country and its people. I heard that Chinua Achembe lives in NJ. I need to see this man to thank him for his famous "Things Fall Apart " book

  • Contrary to what you are preaching, Kiswahili as a language is not short of words. It is a very rich language. Do you really know the language well?

  • This is not a place to vent your personal emotions .Instead of degrading my work please challenge me with a better one . I would like to view your video clip about Swahili language.

  • Personal emotions? Haifai kuwapotosha watu. Usiseme hakina jina iwapo wewe mwenyewe haukijui! Kwa mfano: sukari(sugar - note the spelling) Ndoo(bucket) karai(bathbasin) biskuti(cookie) chai(tea) majani(leaves) poda(powder) unga(flour) mchuzi(soup) njugu karanga(peanuts) siagi(butter) pilipili(pepper) kiungo, bizari(seasoning) sabuni(soap) ramani(map) kiviringo, duara (globe, sphere) bakuli(bowl) ndizi(banana(s)) - no such thing as mandizi in kiswahili.

  • Thanks for this!!

  • Thanks for your positive comments.
