  • I always used to ring out my hair like a towel! After watching this I'm having second thoughts. I'm going to go try these tips right now and from now on :) thank you!

  • (I thought you mentioned how much you wash your hair in this video but it must have been a different one, I'm not a stalker I promise haha)

  • @RacingStarShips Hee! If your scalp likes conditioner - then use it! I only wash mine once a week, so conditioner up top isn't necessary as by day four, my scalp is conditioning itself. LOL. You know your hair best, and if you like conditioner all over, then use it. :o)

  • I have a question about this. I have shoulder blade length hair and I wash it about as much as you said you do. I tried to follow this washing routine but I found after a while I started getting dandruff from not conditioning the top, and I only wash my hair about 2-3 times a week (I still shower haha). I don't normally have dry hair though. What can I do?

  • ey im a dude with shoulder length hair lol and was just wondering wat shampoo do all ya'll recommend for long straight thick hair? do i have to use conditioner cos i really have never bothered thanks :D

  • @MrSuRaJ931 Go with whatever shampoo you like the smell of - they're mostly the same. However, get yourself some conditioner! So many guys have never bothered with it because shorter lengths don't mind not having it...longer hair however? NEEDS it! You will be amazed at how much better your hair looks and feels and how much easier it will be to get the tangles out.

  • Yay! I do it exactly the same way you do! Go us!

  • Oh oh! i was totally doind it wrong :S .. thank you soo much for this video HairQueen you changed the way i shampoo my hair now :)

  • Glad to know I've been doing it the right way. :D

  • torrin, what is your hair type? 1 or 2? just curious. :) love the vid by the way. the majority of mine are like this...

  • @waterlily716 My hair type is 2a/b M/C iii - according to what I can tell. :o)

  • @torrinpaige Aha! Got it. My hair is like yours pretty much, but 3a/b I think.

  • are you supposed to leave it slimy after conditioning. or do you wash all the sliminess out. :O

  • @pwoofyme I rinse most of it out...but not all. More if if it's feeling pretty good, less if it's been feeling dry.

  • i've always wondered how i should shampoo my hair cos it's past the length of being able to be piled up on top of my head... and then i found out i shouldn't be scrubbing on top of my head anyway. watched a video where a hairstylist said the shampoo running off your scalp is enough to clean the rest of your hair. so we can just massage it into our scalp :D

  • can you make a video on how you dry your hair hon, im interested in knowing, i have long hair and i want to get my hair healthy for 2012

  • ive been washing my hair wrong - im gonna try your way, ps you have lovely hair.

  • WHAT ABOUT IF YOU THE NIGHT BEFORE PUT COCONUT OIL DOWN ALL THE HAIR TO THE ENDS OF HAIR? DO YOU STILL NOT PUT SHAMPOO on that area, just the scalp? ty for making this. Hugs

  • @LesliMademoiselle Yup, still wash the same. Now occasionally I'll oil it too much and a tiny extra dab of shampoo on the length may be needed to get it off, but usually the squish-squish-squish works just fine.

  • @torrinpaige TY for making this video!!! It shows most of us we been doing it wrong. I started using coconut oil on mine about five days ago and already I can clearly see its so gonna improve my long hair and I wont have to chop it all off now lol.

  • I love your hair!!! Your hair is so shiny, long, and beautiful!

  • That's some long fucking hair.. Aha

  • @torrinpaige plz advice.....

  • I do oil my hair bt i hav been facing a lot of hairfall prblm n my hair tend to break frm da mid length. Can tell me few tricks to grow nic healthy hair coz i love my hair i dont want to lose thm

  • thank you to tell use

  • This is exactly how I've always washed my hair, and I assumed everyone did it this way. Why would anyone ball it up on their head!? It's easier to do it this way and makes more sense.

  • This is really good! Thank you so much for uploading this. Even though my hair is of an ordinary length - not as long and as nicely taken care of yours - this video really contributed to my health caring exercise. Thank you, once again.

  • Thanks for the video! it rreally helps me! (:

  • @ATP6TS I only wash once a week, I just put my hair up when I take a bath, but if you prefer to shower, they make shower caps to keep your hair dry. As far as 2 in 1? No way. I use very little shampoo and a ton of conditioner. 2 in 1 products are okay for short hair, especially if you plan on keeping it short, but they are totally not suitable for long hair in my experience.

  • I wish I had as beautiful long hair as you do.. I take good care of it, I always put some good coconutoil on it before washing it (with handmade cold process shampoo bar) and finish with lemon rince. but I have some bad genes for hair apparently, cause I have never been able, in more than 10 years, to get long thick hair, they always stay thin, don't have a lot of hair unfortunatly.. so I am very jealous of people with long thick hair. and now after child birth, they keep falling off.

  • Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one who over-conditions. With long, super curly hair I really need it. I don't feel so lonely now! LOL.

  • thanks for this video!!! I never knew that there could be a right/ wrong way to wash your hair...

  • Your nails are so adorable!!!

  • Everything you said not to do, I ALWAYS do, lol. On the other hand, my hair is suuuper healthy and beautiful, I LOVE IT, hahahal. ((:

  • i LOVE your shirt!!!

  • Would this motion of when you squeeze your hair out to get rid of the water....wouldnt when you do a twisted braid be sort ofthe same motion. or does the wetness of the ahir have to do something with it?

well just thought i would get that out their...bringing to consideration :) btw i washed my hair wrong from my whole life until now......14 years of breakage :L

  • Omigosh I washed my hair wrong today!! >_< lol I never even thought to consider that there would be a right and wrong way to wash. I've heard cold water is better and that obviously blow-drying and using a flat iron a lot are bad, but I didn't think improper washing could also do damage. Le sigh. Ah well, my hair isn't in bad condition at least, but it's always so dry and frizzy-ish. Do you know of a way to fix that without extensive product use? Thanks for the tutorial! : )

  • @writerspen010 You may want to try oiling it the night before a wash...what type of oil is really up to your preference, but coconut seems to work for most people. Look for my General Hair Care video...I cover oiling in that one.

  • oh I love the nails! did u do them yourself?! the little fishes were great! I love doing my own nails :) & thx for explaining how to squish out my hair...I kind of learned some of ur tips as I went along through breakage trail and error but know I see what I'm doing right..or wrong. ;)

    ]

  • Torrin, thank you so much for sharing this (even though it was like, two years ago!!)!!!

I am one of those who had no idea how much damage I was doing! I feel horrible. :(

I rarely ever blow dry, and I try very hard to maintain my length (it reaches the top of my bum :D), but I simply was ignorant to the damage my washing was causing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now I just need to find something that will prevent so many damned split ends!! :-/

  • I was so happy to realize i was doing all the right things. YEA!! I luv ur tutorials, and u, Torrin Page. Keep up the good work!!

  • I have been trying to grow my hair out for quite some time. I have always washed my hair the way you demonstrate, but I have to ask if you have any recommendations for haircutting regimens. I get my hair cut about twice a year, and I only ever have a trim for the dead ends. How often would you recommend a cut to encourage growth? Thanks :)

  • @whitbit222 Only trim when your ends need it. Twice a year is about the usual for me...although if I've been particularly nice to it, I can get by with once every 8-10 months. Cutting the ends off to "encourage growth" is a fallacy the salons put out there to drum up business. As hair only grows from 1/2 an inch to 2 inches per month, getting trims every six weeks just keeps your hair the same length. More diary seems to be what keeps mine is good shape on the growing end.

  • @torrinpaige I of course meant dairy..as in products from cows and such. Le sigh. Stupid fat fingers and typos.

  • @torrinpaige Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. Twice a year is about the norm for me I can never afford the salon.

  • I'm glad I'm doing it right :)

  • And how often do you wash your hair? Once a week, twice a week? The drying must take so long with your length. X_X

  • Hi! New sub. here. May I suggest using Avalon Organics conditioners? These conditioners are AMAZING. I have a few videos raving on them! Full of lots of lovely oils..my hair is so thick, wavy/dry, and I used to use conditioners like you, gobs of it! but now, I use a 'regular' amount, because Avalon Organics really does condition. Plus, they are cruelty-free-don't test their products on animals! -Jen

  • Thanks a lot for your tips! I have been following them for a few weeks now and I noticed that my hair stays clean longer, it is shinier and I hope it'll grow faster

  • can hot coconut oil treatment bleach ur hear, I swear it makes my hair lighter and I use very lil of it on scalp

  • yes, it has a natural peroxide in it that bleaches some peoples hair color over time, some faster than others

  • hey i was wondering how many times a week would you wash your hair and how long would you go before your next wash im young and need to know and not many people have good answers and they vary alot thanx :)

  • I wonder how long it took you too grow your hair so long! I always get the shampoo out of my hair with really cold water, because I heard it makes it more shiny. Is this true?

  • @DutchyDubs It took me about 6 years from chin to waist...as far as cold water...you can use a cold water rinse right before you get out of the shower to seal your hair cuticle...after you've shampoo and conditioned. Some gals swear by it, but for myself, I hate being drenched in icy water, so I don't do it. I'm only a luke-warm shower taker for the most part, so I don't worry about it too much.

  • That's exactly how I wash/condition my hair. I don't use as much conditioner because it's baby-fine and you have about 3/4 thicker volume than I do. When you do a triple braid, one of yours is still thicker than my single braid. Oh, if wishes were fishes....still, I love the color and texture of my hair so 2 outta 3 ain't bad. I had to learn how to brush long hair from my older sister. Mother always had short hair. Thanks for sharing some not-so-common knowledge.

  • @torrinpaige - This is actually such wonderful advice. I've always been so cruel to my hair. XD I'm so glad someone could tell me the right way. I'm definitely going to use your tips this very night before I go to bed.

Thank you so much for thinking of this! Yay for your brain! hahah

  • beautiful hair!

  • Ok, I have short hair (a little above my shoulders) And when ever Im done with my shower, the bang area of my hair and a little of the front will dry the fastest but will poof up for no reason! And it confuses the living daylights out of me. any tips to prevent it??

  • Thank you for posting this... My hair isn't nearly as long as yours... but I can use these tips... I love your hair, it's so long and pretty :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this, I currently have 2.5 feet of hair and can never seem to get it longer, and now I know why.

  • Thank you soooo much, i've always wanted to ask someone how to properly was hair, but i didnt want to seem dumb so thanks you for this video!! is it possible that my hair will get better after washing my hair properly?? i always thought i was washing properly because i see it on comercials but nvm. im glad you thought about making this video, cant wait to wash my hair!

  • Never has a hair washing tutorial been so sensual. You madam, are dead sexy.

  • when i was younger, i just conditioned my hair & barely shampooed. now i just shampoo my hair. i dont think its as silky as it was then, but it gives more body to my hair. since i have stick straight hair i think the conditioner weighed my hair down a lot. i never comb my hair and i always air dry it. i just run my fingers through my hair and turn my head over and shake it to get it untangled... i guess i can do that cause my hair is only to the middle of my back. thanks for the tips!

  • u and ur vids r just awesome!!!=D ....it's helping me a lot ;-)

  • i love your vids i love how you do your vids i just love your videos

  • are u a strawberry blonde? your hair color is gorgeous.

  • Okay, WOW, thank you! I already kind of do some of these thing (only wash the scalp), but I DO wring my hair out. My hair is just about mid back and WILL NOT grow longer without breaking. Hopefully your tips will help, thank you again!

  • I came across this video randomly a few weeks ago, and I tried this and it really works. I always got knots in my hair before I dried it, and now I get none at all. I felt like I had to come back and praise about your techniques. ;) Thanks for the really helpful video.

  • You are a pretty woman, and you have glorious hair! Don't be so hard on yourself.

  • You have absolutely BEAUTIFUL Hair!! I Love it!!

  • i do the same thing when i vondition but i just do 5 conditioner

  • Thanks this realy helps, comming from a guy with long hair.

  • I did everything wrong ..until now! :D ..thk yooou :*

  • thank you for this video!

i have an oily scalp and i hate shampooing my hair though i have to do it everyday!

i am one of those guilty of piling my hair on my head and scrubbing :/

now i am going to try this technique soon! thank you!

  • You're hair is sooooooooo long and beautiful!!!! How long did it take you to get it that long? :)

  • You are so adorable. I have your length but its curly, i used to shampoo it everyday, and now i hear stories that its really bad. Your video was very useful! How often should we shampoo?

  • this is so helpful! thanks soo much torrin :)

  • you should always use conditioner because it closes the cuticle. If you don't your hair is open to far more damage. And in saying that, you can use a different type of conditioner than you do shampoo, shampoo is for cleaning the scalp and removing product (must do 2 washes) and then use conditioner for mid lengths to ends to close the cuticle.

  • Awesome video! Ta! Does your method work the same way if you wash it upside down over the bathtub?

  • I've actually learned a lot from that video. Thanks! Since I've always had short hair it wasn't important what I did. Now everything starts to make sens ^^ I'll stop piling hair on top of my head.

  • Your nails are really cute!! :) And i just started washing my hair this way and I have seen such an improvement in the way my hair looks and feels!

  • ilove your hairrr it's so prettyyy! thanks for the tips(:

  • I'm the same, lots of conditioner:) But thanks for shampoo tips, Makes a lot of sense.

    :)

  • Thank you so much for this video!!! I have really long hair, and always end up with tangles. I cant wait to take a shower and try it out. Love your nails.

  • I know with how my hair was cut at the last hair modelling show. It's really short layers on top, with more and more length the further down it is. So I have to condition the scalp area as well.

What's the best way to grow your hair out? From mid shoulder to waist without the intense breakage/issues I seem to get at that length?

  • a really helpful tutorial! thanks a lottttttttttt for this!!! i have hair almost as long as you do...

    and super cute nails!

  • I absolutely LOVE using that much conditioner, it's not really noticable for shorter hair lengths, but for lengths past the shoulders it is an absolute godsend. You don't necessarily have to spend that much on the stuff you're buying either.

  • how often do u wash your hair cuz it is so pretty and long

  • P.S. Your nails are TOO CUTE!

  • WOW, I am a girl with longer hair and I had no idea! Go figure that I wouldn't know, nobody talks about this stuff! Thanks so much!

  • How interesting! I've been doing this ALL WRONG for years!!

  • i do all the things you said not to:$:L am defo gona do it your way next time im in the shower, i LOVE your nails!! :)x

  • I like ur nails they r so cute!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have to wash my hair everyday but i never washed it everyday b4 but one day i went with out washing my hair and it got sooo geasy and ever since i had to wash it everyday or it woud like stick to my head :)

  • whoa, you have really long hair. but its sooo pretty :). i wish i had hair like yours. you can really do a lot with it. you must take really good care of it.

  • u r great :)

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA @ "Yay for my brain"..hehe that really made me laugh as I get that feeling alot. Thanks for the tutorial and the laugh :)

  • i love your tips!

    you really help:)

  • I actually have a dentangling comb that has a little hook on it so I can just hang it up in my bathroom and I don't have to worry about forgetting it. It's by conair and you can get it pretty much anywhere from CVS to Wal-Mart. :D

  • I wash my hair about as you do, but I put the shampoo into a plastic cup, dilute it with 1/2 cup water, swoosh it aroung with my finger and pour that over my whole scalp.

  • This has helped me so much, it is the first video I have seen were it targets long hair, thanku so much!

  • I've been washing my hair like this ever since I watched your video, about a month ago, and my hair feels so much nicer! Haha I've pretty much been washing my hair the wrong way for about 15 years (I'm 19)!

  • These were very awesome tips, and I think that some of this goes for everyone! I have shorter hair and I still shampoo and scrunch my hair on my head, knowing I shouldn't! :-/ I need to get better!

  • Excellent instruction! I stopped using shampoo about 3 years ago & use strictly conditioner & at the top as demonstrated. Well, I may use shampoo about 4x per year, depending but It's too industrial. And if I had a cistern I'd use strictly rainwater, it's a completely different look with that. Tap water is loaded with filth & destructive to hair but what can you do. Shampooing is rare but when I'm forced to it's a teeny amount. :D

  • Thank you so much! I am the only one I know with long hair so I never had anyone to teach me how to take care of it. Most of it has been trial and error.

I had already figured out how to gently squeeze out the water and to finger comb in the conditioner but I did not know that balling the hair was bad. Darn shampoo commercials are dens of misinformation. lol.

  • I just have a question to ask you. How many times a week should you wash your hair? Some people do it every day and others do it three times a week. Which do you suggest? Thank you.

  • You deffinetly should not wash your hair everyday, when you do your striping essential oils from your hair and then they end up over producing those oils. I suggest about every other day or so. It all depends on how greasy your hair gets. If you can get a way with it go a bit longer. My hair just starts getting extremly greasy after about the second day.

  • How can you tell when the conditioner is out or shampoo?I feel like I spend to much time washing my hair, and I wonder if that has to do with my hair shedding so much? Then again I don't eat right either or take vitamins like I should.

  • hi ur so cute! i'm asian and have really long hair, about the same length as yours. i want you to know that my routine is exactly 100% the same as yours! i guess for people who've kept very long hair for a long long time u kinda know what works best for you. I mostly only shampoo my scalp coz we all know if you shampoo your hair as well, it gets to be as dry as hay. and i condition only the ends and i never wring, just squeeze dry. we have the same routine!

  • You are sooooo cute! Very personable, and friendly and clear spoken. Easy to grasp, step by step instruction too.

I'm black and dont have anywhere close to the amount of hair you have...but I will TOTALLY try your "smoothing" and "squeeze through" techniques. Thanks for the great tutorial. Very COOL!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

I have much shorter hair than yours but it's still long enough that I get a ton of breakage when I wash it.

  • YAY!! nice to know i do it properly!!

thanks for posting this vid :)

  • WOW SO WONDERFULL HAiR *__*

  • I've been forced to wash my hair with my head upside down for years now due to the incredible amount of hair falling out, especially when my hair gets wet. It's weird and it's not like I'm going bald, lol, but the many loose hairs sticking on to my body feels really unpleasant. Hahah, don't know why I'm telling all this. Let's just say that hair washing is *not* one of my favourite things to do in this world... But I love having somebody else wash it at a hair salon when it's time for a trim :D

  • I use about 3 bottles of conditioner to 1 bottle of shampoo too. I've been sick all of my life and my hair and nails show it. I shampoo the scalp area only, like you do and then rinse, I don't do the squeeze thing, I just let the soapy water wash my hair as I rinse it out. I then condition, mostly like you do but I then put it in a shower cap to keep my hair off my body and give the conditioner some time to do it's job. If you want to know the sham/cond I use, message me.

  • i was thinking about how to wash my hair last night haha and it makes sence now thanks:)

  • Hahaha' thats exactly how i do mine!!

    LOL

  • hello torrin. thank you for this video. love your hair, that's your motto. love your nails and toes, too. you are too fun. sandy

  • i heard a lot of good comments about Aussie 3 minutes moisture traitement. apparently it's wonderfull, I just bought it today will see if it works!! if anyone is interested!!!

  • awesome. I had very long hair for a few years and you make me miss it badly (i had dreadlocks for a while and cut them because I missed playing with my hair, so now I'm halfway to getting it back). THIS is exactly how I've washed my hair too!! It makes it healthier! Thanks! I feel like I wasn't crazy for how I washed my hair!

  • thanks for this video, i used wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much conditoner then people are supposted to, too hah

  • Thank you so much! yeah... lots of people don't really do videos on how to wash your hair..

     thanks

and you have nice long hair =DD

  • thanks so much - and just a tip, you should never bring you comb into the shower as when your hair is wet it can break easy, 5/5 love you videos

  • I confess to wringing my hair. Is it still going to cause as much damage if I make sure to put my hand at the top so I'm not twisting at the roots?

I don't bother washing the ends of my hair - the shampoo washes through it when I rinse my hair out, and it doesn't get dirty enough in the 3-4 days between washes to need anything more. I do, however, have a hard time washing the back of my head. The shampoo tends to stop in the hair before it hits my scalp. Any tips on that?

  • wow, i wash my hair the exact same way! but i also do conditioner only washes in between =]

how often do you trim your hair?

  • This is so cool! I'll wash my hair this way the next time. How often do you wash your hair?

  • I really love your videos! Thank you!

  • I KNOW! I use waaay too much conditioner. Its just habit.

  • I don't use conditioner...I just don't have the water heater to do it lol So I use a leave-in conditioning cream. I use it after my shower....towel dry my hair a little just to get the excess water out, and then I split my hair down the middle and use about a nickel to a quarter size amount in the palm of my hand for both sides, and smooth through. I let it sit a bit to rest my hair and then I comb through and then I normally just braid my hair because i'm on bedrest due to pregnancy lol

  • aw i hope your pregnancy carries out well. good luck to you and your baby. is there a particular brand of cream you like best??

  • I like either Sunsilk, or Garnier. I have fairly normal hair, but I always get the stuff for dry or damaged hair. Seems to work so much better on keeping those dang ends soft lol Just don't use too much at your roots. My rule of thumb is to keep most of it about Thank you for your kind words. I am at 27 weeks and counting. I just need him to stay in for another 6 or so and he should do just fine when he is born :)

  • I have started using sulphate free shampoo since I had a keratin treatment. I use chi keratin mist, and chi silk infusion and my hair is like silk. I am at my one year hair growth. good luck to you.

  • thank you :)

  • make more videos there awesome and more helpful than alot of videos

  • oh, one thing extra ... when i do comb it out in the shower and after the silk drops, i always start from the bottom 6 inches and comb it out 6" of length at a time. make sense??? work my way up. otherwise, if i started from the top down, omg the breakage would be horrifying! works every time! and you can't believe how fast it goes.

love dem goldie fishies at de end! day b kewtsies!

  • hi torrin! i can't believe this! i was just thinking of trying to do a vid like this. i am astounded that this is exactly how i wash mine! great minds think alike huh? i do the brush out before i get it wet, never ball it up, let the suds run down to gently clean the length, comb it out with the rinse on it and running water on it. same with shampoo v. conditioner. i have never WRUNG my hair. ever. wowee! WE are awsome!

  • OMG!! It's a real eye-opener, I've been washing my hair all so wrong!!!! Thank you so much for this instruction. Can't wait for my next wash.

  • So glad to know I'm not the only one who goes through conditioner like crazy! :-)

  • 1:40 hahaha, thats funny!! we luv u!

  • XD I also use waaay to much conditioner.

  • Thanks for this video. Again you are awesome. I have longish hair and thought I was doing everything right, but I am guilty of wringing my hair at the end to get the water out. So now I am gonna have to try the squeeze method. Also I always put up with the dripping cause my towel does not stay on my hair very long, but a beach towel is a great idea. Dumb question but how do you put the towel on ? - by bending over or ?

  • Yup. I bend over and then just gently twist it up into a turban and stand up. :o)

  • hehehe Thanks!!

I love your videos, my hairs over 2 feet and I stopped dying it last summer,

ive always treated it kindly otherwise.

I watched this video last night and decided to try out the tips I didn't Already know and my hair was AMAZING after it dried (naturally ofcourse).

It felt amazingly smooth & softer then usual.

    - andy

  • Thanks for letting everyone in on the secret. As a guy - there's not much of a peer group to tell us these things. No more balling up the hair! And I now know how to get conditioner on the ends which has been a problem when starting from a ball of hair on top of my head.

  • 2:53 'Stop now' sounded like Pheobe Buffey from Friends!

Nice tutorial, I will stop rubbing now! x

  • wow, i was doing it wrong. lol. you had some good ideas in here. your hair is gorgeous.

also, your nails are amazingly cute. (:

  • THANK YOU!!!

My hair is about your length or a little longer, and I have absolutely been washing it wrong. I have breakage something awful, and horrible tangles. This has really helped me. Now if I could just figure the french braiding out I would be tickled! LOL

  • i do my hair the same and my hair is past my length but i dont use conditioner and i found it is betterfor my hair just saying try it if you want see if there is a difference and thanks for the hairstyles i was looking for it because i am doing a show soon called Twelfth Night and i wanted some help with long hair styles and stuff

  • My Gram doesn't use any conditioner either and it works great for her hair. Mine turns into a tangled mess, but I think our big difference is that hers is thin and stick straight while mine is thick and tends to wave a bit. I'm glad you've found a routine your hair is happy with!

  • is it okay to blow dry your hair ?

  • As long as you use something toprotect it against heat damage, blowdrying is okay...just not every day. I blowdry mine around every other wash (which averages about twice a month) but I've been trying to cut down a bit because any heat styling is bad for your hair. Every now and then, though shouldn't be a problem.

  • How long have you been growing your hair out? How short did you start? What is your daily care routine from morning to night? Do you ever brush your hair? Do you shampoo just the roots? Do you condition everything? Do you ever skip shampooing?

    -curious georgette-

  • Good video.

I have dry hair and scalp so I wash with conditioner then condition again.

I can't use a standard hair towel turban either but since I've started plopping I've found an old knit pillowcase works for me. However, I have long hair but not much of it.

I have a wide tooth comb with a hook on one end that hangs over my showerhead. I think I got it a Wal-mart.

  • Great vid!! You put me in the mood to wash my hair :)

Thanks for the nails at the end too! I was looking at them throughout the vid hahaha.

  • i usualy do the lather, rinse, repeat-rule with my hair (because its thick and coarse, kinda like wool:p) to get it totaly clean, also i only use paul mitchell shampoo/cond. and serum, its well worth the extra $ !! will definately stop twisting and balling it on top ! hehe...habits die hard and im just starting to get bra-strap-long hair again, so will put up a reminder-note on my vanity mirror ! ^-^ -and yet again, great video torrin ! :)

  • oh! lols, 3 times over? You can have one specially made too :) I have one that's oversized, i love my turbie twist XD

  • thank you for the tips! I was doing all the wrong things..lol. And I love your nails, very cute!

  • I've dyed my hair countless times, I ball it up on top of my head and blow dry and use straighteners on my hair pretty much every day.. I am shocked it hasnt fallen out yet! i think its coz I do leave conditioner in for a while and i use leave in conditioner and heat protectants on my hair before using ANY hot tools.. I'm going to try your way of washing tho tomorrow to see how my hair feels. Love your vids chick!

  • People might think that washing hair is a no-brainer, but actually I learned a lot from this video. Now I know how to show Katie the best way to wash her super long hair. And I'm going to wash my own hair the same way, although it's not nearly as long. Also, I hadn't heard about the no-wringing rule. I've always twisted hair to get the water out, now I'll 'squeegee' it out instead. Thanks for the tips!

Quick question: what kind of comb do you use? A wide-tooth one or small-tooth one?

  • Wide toothed all the way...the little ones get stuck and break. My hair is hungry, apparently. If I get one of those teeny tiny tangles that slip through the wide comb, I try to pull them apart with my fingers and then comb them with the little comb.

  • could you maybe show us the comb or combs you use in one of your videos?

  • Thanks sooooo very much Torrin!!! much needed advice.. I've had long hair nearly all my life, and always rubbed my hair between hands while shampooing... now I know why I lose an insane amount of hair!!! XD

  • Compliments on the tut. No extraneous b.s. to wade through. You get to the point with no stumbles or fumbles. Lots of great advice too! I'm growing my own hair out again and am re-acquainting myself with all the great "do's" you can do with it.

  • I recommend using a turbie twist for towel replacement, I have less breakage than with regular towels :D

Torrin, do you use hot oil treatments for your hair? Would you recommend them?

  • I have a turbie twist...and it's too small! I have to fold my hair over three times to get it in there...and that just causes tangles. All of my bathroom towels are beach towels (you may have noticed my violent green ones that don't match my decor at all hanging in the background) because they are the only things big enough for my hair. LOL. I just use coconut oil the night before...it's been working really well. But it's worth a try. Maybe your hair will love hot oil.

  • I was about to say how I love your nails again, and then I saw the pictures^^ Nice!

  • yay! Torrin is a hero! I'm so happy you covered that because I have friends around me who like to murder their hair and then cry to me that it's not growing. Also, I think that a lot of people trying to grow out their hair do not know how to comb/brush it properly and it ends up making me cry when they're so rough!

  • Forgot to add, you'd be surprised at how many people wash by rubbing their hair in their palms (and ball too)! I always tell new clients in the salon and they're amazed. Rubbing hair against hair can be just like sand paper!

  • So glad you did this, it's pretty much how I do mine too but now I can link you on my blog to show others.

A few other tips are to always do your final rinse in as cold of water as you can stand. This seals the outer layer of your hair and makes it nice and shiny.

And Paul Mitchell's The Detangler is one of the best, unless you have special needs; over processed hair, ect.

    Love.The.Nails!

  • I'm gonna have to try the detangler you mentioned.
