  • hi cam, since i am a chef i want to advise you to thaw your steak (24 hrs in fridge)

and if possible use open charcoal fire(sorry george and jen), good thing you had wa-gyu!!

  • @dedries Excellent idea re. thawing. I agree. Totally. It makes a huge difference. But the Aussie beef we get here in Japan is still TERRIBLE. If that's what Aussie's eat, I can't imagine why they think it is so great.

Also, I can't do charcoal grill here. It would be great, but just not good in Japan. I fry everything. Much easier. And George didn't work well here because the voltage is lower, so it doesn't get hot enough to actually "grill" it. Had to try, though.

    Thanks for advice!

  • Wow, you accomplish a lot in one day. What time do you get up, and how many hours of sleep do you get a night!?

I'm a vegetarian, but I watched this whole video with great interest. And it warms my heart to see your Tim Hortons mug.

  • What?!?!?! You're vegetarian?!??!?! Gimme my futon back!!!!!!

(Had I known I would have rubbed the futon with bacon.... that would have done you and your vegetarian days in...)

I go to bed about 1am and get up about 6. Tokyo time moves twice as fast as Fukui time so everything feels hustled. bustled. Thanks, Mitch!

  • Wow, only five hours of sleep! How do you do it!? I need eight at least.

I can't be sure that the futon wasn't stuffed with bacon when you sent it to me. I'll have to get 100 vegetarian (women) to sleep in it, and set it straight.

  • You asked for it, Mitch.

    HI!

Let me be the first but certainly not the last to tell you about the energy benefits of a high protein diet, and how sugars, including those in carbs and fruits and many veggies can sap your energy. I was getting by with for to six hours a night. I'm pretty much enjoying the six now.

Here comes Cam to tell you the rest of the story.

  • Uh-oh! I set myself up for this one! haha

  • sigh....Cam is picking on vegetarians again....

  • you live in china or japan and for what reason camwitzer i love the vid though plz send me a message KK:)

  • Sharkey - Thanks for writing. I live in ...... can you guess? Watch another video. And thanks for watching this. It. is. my. life.

    Cam

  • This is great Cam. A little tip I use... after I am done grilling my food I place a wet paper towel onto the grill and close the lid. It soaks everything so it wipes clean quickly.

Also did you remember to season your grill with oil first? You should not use Pam, it makes non stick "stick" instead. Its a great little gizmo.... hope you enjoy it.

  • I do something like that, P. Even if it's turned off while we eat i heat it up again for cleanup and run a wet wad of paper towels on it and it comes clean. Didn't know about the Pam causing more stickiness, but since mine's pretty well seasoned now i don't have much of a problem.

  • I wiped it off while hot yesterday so most came up.

  • Thank you! That wet paper towel on the grill sounds interesting. I think I'll try it after I cook my fish and pork, mushrooms, cabbage and whatever else I can put on there this morning!

  • All that?

    For breakfast?

    OY!

  • Yup. Double it and it makes for a delicious lunch, too. All packed up and ready to put in my "outing pack" (HD Lunch Satchel is too small for a day out to Kobuchizawa with food, and books and stuff).

  • Bento box? I bet not big enough, right?

  • I bought the "bigmotherfucker" size. Just right. If I supplement it with other stuff on the side...

  • Yaay!! I'm so glad you finally got one! I personally have never used one.. but I know you've been wanting one for years! :)

  • Me too! Me too!

  • Wanna come clean my house? hehe!

    That's a really cool grill!

  • Dreamweaver/Sally is right. Spray it with Pam or brush some cooking oil on it and it won't be so sticky... unless you get into the marinades, like tak178 suggests.

    Enjoy!

    Jen

  • Thanks Jen!

  • I just checked out George Foreman Grill on the internet and it seem very versatile for a lot of recipes. Do you think we can get one of those in Japan?

  • Maybe on an American Base... try Ebay? Yahoo Auction?

  • Cam and George, what a pair! Might try a bit of spray like Pam and the grill won't stick but can be just wiped off. Oh, this is Sally -- love you!

  • Hi Sally! Funny... I have a dreamweaver account too!

  • Japanese steak is the best in the world.Yum!:)> From what I gather off your other vids you like to cook; but your kitchen looks so clean, like you never use it.What's your secret?

  • Clean after every. single. cooking. No. Exceptions. Ever.

  • Welcome to American style cooking, Cam. I'll have to share some recipes for marinades. Nothing says steak like a fine marinade...and I think you might not find too many in Japan other than a Miso or Teriyaki kind. :)

  • Please do!

  • yay Cam made another video about.....the one and onlyy...MEATT =) happy 2010 Cam

  • Thanks!

  • hmmmm...oishii!!! I subscribed just today ^^

  • Thanks! I hope you find a few others in my ... 440 some odd videos (odd? yes!) of interest too! Arigatou!

  • haha I am sure I'll find them interesting ^^ I really wanna go to japan! u are fluent ne? how long have u been there? and in what city are u?

  • 20 years, and Tokyo now. But for the past 20 years I lived in the countryside, my Shangri-la. As you will see if you bop around my channel! Best of luck and come to Japan! (Look me up when you do; many others have from all around the globe). Thanks, TDQ!
