you're on drugs, dude. 5 gallon buckets are much lighter than garbage cans full of excrement. Go with the Joseph Jenkins approach instead. Also, shavings don't break down as well as sawdust.
@1too3fore I agree totally with the humanure approach and have changed my restrooms to those since then but I still prefer the larger medium garbage bins. The farther it falls the better. All you have to do is empty it before it fills half way. Everyone has their own needs and lives and learns from their mistakes. And ALL should be applauded for thinking outside the box and actually going out there and BUILDING a waterless toilet. Way to go!!
then the contents will not smell and the bins will be lighter
cut the back out of the outhouse so you can use a sackcart/trolley to transport the bins. transport the full bins downhill(its easier) leave the bins with openlids and covered with fly net. onced dried the contents will not smell and can be used to make raised composting flower/food plant beds.
make a ventilation pipe out the back on the sunny side, make airtight on the inside
@lookingforthemeaning I use the same type of bins. I prefer the larger ones over the smaller ones. All you have to do is empty the more often if you don't want to bother with a heavy bin. I never let mine fill over half way up and moved my compost bin a bit closer. I've done a lot of improvements. It's all about trial and error.
Good job! Keep up the good work. Have you made any changes since 2009?

Actually the buckets are mostly sawdust and the poo dries out so it's now heavy at all.

Those buckets are going to be extremely heavy.
