@Direness Ur quite right about what u're saying, BUT... how the hell do u know that the not-ballroom is the "real" stuff? That's kinda being rude to all ballroom dancers. Ballroom maybe doesn't have the "ethnic" thing, but I guess it's a bit more advanced than the hula hula in Rio carnevals. Yeah, that's maybe what it all started from, but it still isn't "the right" way to do it. The Rio hula hula is NOT the real stuff. They are different and shall not be compered. So shut up really.
one more thing ... the translation "ballroom samba" is "samba of gafieira"
There are people who think they are different ... they sell a lie. They dance a mix of things (and salsa. .. etc) and they say it is samba, they use the international image and culture of another country to sell and make money!
Samba is a dance for all, then come to Brazil and learn before selling a lie!
first and final...if i type samb for beginners...i want to see samba for beginners not some shit that is obviously not for beginners. and if i wanted to see some ballroom shit...i'd ask for it. this will never be samba, merenge(sp?), etc. if i go to a dam dancehall somewhere overseas...am i gonna break out and use this? hell no. give me the authentic stuff
ok, uhm that is not Samba for BEGINNERS!!! Its 29! seconds of two ppl who are professionals moving their hips around and moving their feet all over the place and omg thats crazy! whoa, but its really cool. I really wish I could do that!
Also that is not samba or batucada, sounds more like a cha cha cha or something like that, let me tell you something for that hot chick I even do the moonwalk forward style, cheers.
dancing pixies - I don't know if this is right but I know that the steps you're referring to are set to what's called a batucadas rhythm (I don't think that's the actual name of the step, simply the rhythm in which they are performed). I, too, have been trying to figure out the actual name of those steps - if you find out, let me know!
Sorry guys, but ballroom never gets a folk dance of any sort right. Ballroom strips away most ethnic ties to the dance that inspired it to make it palpable for upper class European & American tastes. It still calls the bastardized thing left behind "samba", "salsa", "tango" or "swing", etc. Which is not to say that ballroom is a bad thing, its just a DIFFERENT thing & never to be confused with the REAL stuff. If you love the real street dances, DANCE them and TEACH them and keep them alive.
This is a shame for the dancers that they did not search for what is samba!
Who does not know samba should research and study the culture of each people.
You should study about samba, you should look for "Samba 3 performance" or "Samba No Pe" on youtube! This is the "gaff samba" in Rio de Janeiro! True!
Swing the hip is not samba, samba is on foot ... not in hip
@Direness Well now I have the answer why I can not tell one dance from the other half the time! Thank you. I always thought it was me. You have made me realize it is all one big fusion and also this is why I love most folk dances because they are distinctly different.
I'm sorry but LMFAO @ RUMBA! Anyone calling this rumba (or anything else than ballrom samba) is in total ignorance of this fine art. Rumba is slow and sensuous whereas samba is fun and flirty. Go take a few dance classes so you won't make fools of yourselves.
"shit"???? you're talking about one of the best dancer (if not the best dancer) of the world....this is ballroom samba, why it is so difficult to understand??????
mmm is kinda ballroom or dancehall version for competence, like the tango and all that stuff of saloon dance, it gets nothing to do with the original of any rhytm, like bossa, cha cha cha, mambo, rumba, salsa, etc, the competitions change the original steps and made them more..."easy american show-lazy-way"
I was told so too. But these are really high level dancers, they kinda "skip" the most basic things such as keeping knees together in whisks. But beginners are always taught (and they have to be taught) very precisely the technique so that they learn to do it right. When they have adopted the technique the dance starts to develop into that. It gets more dynamic now when your body masters the movements and techniques.
This is interesting, I was always told by my teachers to keep the knees togethers in the back-replace part of the whisk if you know what i mean!..they are doing it differently, where they are keeping the weight and hip on the back foot and bring in it to the front foot with a delay. humm....I'm confused now!...I thought that core things HAD to be done in a certain way...obviously I'm wrong there.....anybody in the know who'd like to comment?
This is really hard to explain, I hope you get my point. But let's just do as our teachers tell us. That very basic Samba is also the "original" one and we have to learn that before we go there.
i think the title doesn't suit their performance...
