I do have to say I wish I was back in time to these days. The variety of traction was just amazing. This just gives me such a wonderful feeling of nostalgia. I really feel sorry for young Railway enthusiasts what with all these boring railcars, voyagers, and quiet electrics. Give me a Deltic, Western, Peak, Tractor, Duff or Grid over this rubbish anyday.
@vorlonb3 Got to agree with you Vorlon. Me and my mates got interested in the middle of 1980. The deltics hadn't long to go and there were only 3 class 44's left, but still loads of 25's, 37's ,40's, 45's and 46's. We used to hate first generation DMU's but boy at least they had a bit of character (and you could stick your head out of the window) compared to the sanitized trains of today.
@RICKD790 Indeed and I used to remember sticking my head out of the window on a job trip to leeds from sheff. Those 46 peaks certainly did shift, now all gone, including the track! At least we've got your vid to remember by!
DREADFUL, a standard 37 working LHCS overtaking a looped class 45 and arriving into a blackpool while 25s and 08s are working shunt release and ECS jobs - Absolute railway filth - almost enough to cause a froth me thinks...
I am almost literally in tears trawling through aureol's vids. My God, how much we have lost. Remember when England actually looked as shit as this?!
I'm off on Spitfire Railtours' Celtic Growler in a few weeks, with a pair of siphons from Manchester to Perth and back. This vid has got me right in the mood! Just glad such things are still possible on the boring railway of today.
My god. How wonderful to see this and what a phenomenal noise! BR Blue in all its glory.
Thatcher was Prime Minister, Reagan was President, Flashdance by Irene Cara was Number 1 in the charts, and Britain still had a public railway system. And I was 17 years old and train spotting on the WCML!
aureol i'm soo glad i found ur vids on here. u made my day!! sooo good to see some footage from back in the day. even tho i would of only been 6 years old at the time i still remember being completly facinated by these beasts and ever since. thanks a lot for a blast from the past.
I think I'm going to cry.........

Nice view of Wakefield Kirkgate.
On the station the guard walking down the platform is Bob Belt and the driver is Tommy Joyce. Two good Healey Mills men.
Both Bob and Tommy have now retired
Nice to see HM before it was butchered in the late 80's. We ont get such jobs anymore, Toy Town railways from Carnforth do em.
EWS want to much money.
