tried so hard to get a megalopolis after reading about it in Nintendo power at the library (before internet came to my town).... never could get there
@CAHorne15 I never knew there even was a Megalopolis stage until recently. My mom used to play Sim City all the time when I was a kid, and I don't remember her ever getting a megalopolis.
If they remade this for the 3DS, I've be the happiest person in the world. Heck, even a DS or GBA remake, and I'd still be happy. :)
If they do make a remake, DON'T TRY TO FIX THE GAME! The game ain't broken, so don't fix it! Just remake w/ better graphics and portability and I'll be the happiest person on planet Earth. :)
@ThorbenTK WRONG! I built a Megalopolis on Map 61. I'll upload a video soon, but it is very similar to the design of Melvonia, which is also a Megaplis made on Map 61. Look on the right; it should be one of the suggestions.
The first time I got to this, I had to use Game Genie cheats to get way more gifts then I should have had.
Now I realise it's because I kept trying to build a 'proper' town, (ie: all roads and rail connected), rather than just trying to exploit the game mechanincs.
But then again....I guess I was even worse for using Game genie lol.
I got it, but barely. There's one map that has a lot of space but just enough river to give you some high land value areas. The geography kinda reminds me of Detroit. Anyway, I barely got megalopolis, and at times it would dip below the mark, but the music stayed the same.
Even using the infinite funds cheat, I couldn't get a megalopolis. I filled my entire area with stuff, but I never reached more than 3 and a quarter million. My city didn't have any taxes, what do you want from me?!
Well from reading skykid's comment below, apparently water has some value in SimCity, but I don't care enough to research such advanced aspects of the game.
It took me 12 long years to finally hear this in-game.
Here's a tip to anyone trying to get it. Say you're stuck at 400,000 or so and you're full up. Start replacing a few buildings with Industrial Zones, especially underdeveloped housing areas and such. I dunno why it works, but somehow it did for me.
@LFNMishi go online and rea some walkthrus and follow them to the letter if you have to - get one then start over and try again on your own. Its like flooring - laying the floor is no problem ; learning the technique is the real challange.
1:24 - 2:01 THOSE CHORDS....AND THAT THAT HORN....AND THAT SMB3 RUN SOUND FX....
Even though I have just heard the Sim City soundtrack for the first time ever, two days ago, for some odd reason, that section of the song hit me so hard with nostalgia in the strangest way possible.
I managed to make it to Megalopolis one time when I played this years ago. My younger brother wanted to play it for awhile, so I said ok with the stipulation that he not mess with my save file. Well, lo and behold, after he was done playing, my save file was gone. I still have great memories of playing this game. They just don't make games like they used to.
i'm actually in the middle of writing an orchestral arrangement of this, because i noticed no one from nintendo has done it yet, which is really a shame
I hooked this game up recently, and get this, here's a challenge, getting Megalopolis on scenarios.
The only ones that are possible to do it on, and the ones I've done are Detroit, Bern, and Las Vegas.
Detroit believe it or not has a lower percentage of water than Map 061, and is a similar landform. Bern is also quite low, but it's rivers make it tougher. Las Vegas, the UFO attacks, but on this empty land, it is doable.
I'm surprised about how many have not made it to Megalopolis. Good luck.
I have made it this far once, otherwide i am one level below this, i always get stuck around 400k-480k people, i run out of room to build onthe map, i think i need to plan better lol
As much as I've listened to this song, it never dawned on me that the slow part was the village theme. That just makes me like it even more. It's a really beautiful way to top off your achievement in the game.
I've gotten up to 471,890+ citizens in 2087 years on map 61 before, this was accomplished by the so-called "money cheat" I've use to create that city.
Each individual square, 9 of them composing one full space occupying zone, is 1/100 of a square kilometer. There are 12,000 of these in one map, total. Threfore, the map is 120 square kilometers, or about 50 square miles. You may have up to over 20,000 ppl/sq mi. if you get more than 1 mill. pop. That is actually realistic, considering N.Y.C., Tokyo and Shanghai.
Not unless if the building turns into a hi-rise building. That won't look realistic because one building will be sticking out of the builidng like if it has a bone growth or a tumer. So it wont look realistic.
Not really my fave song out of all of them, but if you manage to hear this song in the game, you really shouldn't care. You have a friggin megalopolis!
I never got this far. This is was probably one of the hardest SimCity games.
And BTW, I had it on my original SNES, and I loved it. Also, IMHO, this SimCity has the BEST music of the ENTIRE series. They really should remix these (they didn't for SC3K or SC4, let's just hope that they will someday, as long Nintendo is OK with that).

Microsoftultimatefan 2 years ago
Each individual square, 9 of them composing one full space occupying zone, is 1/100 of a square kilometer. There are 12,000 of these in one map, total. Threfore, the map is 120 square kilometers, or about 50 square miles. You may have up to over 20,000 ppl/sq mi. if you get more than 1 mill. pop. That is actually realistic, considering N.Y.C., Tokyo and Shanghai.
Therefore stacking is in fact realistic.
magicalorangutan2 2 years ago
Not unless if the building turns into a hi-rise building. That won't look realistic because one building will be sticking out of the builidng like if it has a bone growth or a tumer. So it wont look realistic.

Yes but the buildings as shown on the city are not supposed to be to scale; they are merely representative.
The buildings are farr to big proportionately, and the power plants and airports are too small.

TheConcierge15 2 years ago
concierge15, here are all the levels.
0-1,999 citizens, you are a "village".
2,000-9,999 citizens, you are a "town".
10,000-49,999 citizens, you are a "city".
50,000-99,999 citizens, you are a "capital".
100,000-499,999 citizens, you are a "metropolis".
500,000+, youre a "megalopolis".
So yes, there is a capital, but it's actually two levels below a "megalopolis".
magicalorangutan2 2 years ago 2
