@MrsAdely should've explained myself, sorry. the term indie in the past couple of years has become a synonym for mainstream music, that's why i said indie=mainstream. but when interpol was beginning in the early 00's, you're right, it stood for independent music (strokes, the vines, etc). you should read this article called "is indie dead?" from pastemagazine. google it, it's pretty good. sorry for the misunderstanding.
