I was debating between a Mac and a PC...my current laptop is 3 GB and it is slow sometimes. Your video got rid of all my worries about "downgrading" my RAM. I'm off to buy my macbook right now! lol
i have a 1.82 mini with 1 gig of ram.... it definately did NOT load the programs as fast as that, but once i had about 10 apps running it did eveyrthing smoothly still
no xp sucks vista is ok and leopard rocks. xp gives so many errors that when you turn it on, it cant even load the start menu anymore (or so i saw right before i decided to switch to vista) when i switched to vista, i had no problems for 18 months until i got my macbook pro on friday XD
xp ran fine on my old computer but vista with sp1 is good i have it on my imac now everyone will say poor imac but i use it for gaming but i am looking how to do the games to a cider port
Vista is fine on newer systems. It's old hardware that has problems with drivers and such. I have xp on macbook as well as OSX and I use OSX whenever possible it's good. I used to be hardcore PC but now I see the good in both sytems.
Imagine 2.4GHz and with 4GB RAM WOOW!!!!!!! cant wait till I get mine in a few weeks but I'm only gonna choose 2GB of RAM because your not gonna use more than 30 programs every time you use your computer so 2GB is pretty cool
thats what i have... usually i would have just stuck with the 2gb but i got an extremly good offer on RAM and got 4gb for only $40 extra. its pretty amazing
omg..... it took 25 seconds to load....... it takes my windows vista (home premium or sometin premium) literally 5 minutes to load up and then a couple minutes to like warm up b4 i can actually go on the internet =( im jealous, i want a macbook now
Sh!t, you are crazy! opening all those application and it doesnt bug? Sh!t 2gigabytes of ram right? Compared to my Toshiba Vista also 2gig of ram, just opening preferences personalize directly from the desktop, it takes like a WHILE!!
I've seen alot of Toshiba's come with Vista basic and not Home premium seems those models run slower. Also keep in mind that Toshiba's built in apps for the track pad, power management, DVDRAM hack and other misc tools eat a nice chunk of ram and processing.
Well, I have Home Premium SP1 already installed in the machine. It been a whole month using this mech and it is like taking forever to right click and choose personalize from the desktop!!
What in the world was thinking microsoft(cant blame bill gates, hes working on his foundation) of installing VISTA on some PCs builted for xP? WTF? Why if its for vista, Toshiba didnt installed another ddr on it, before selling it at price only 69$ of extra compared to the normal? WTF? WTF?
Hmm. I don't think you've done this test right. I have a 2.0GHz MacBook with 2GB of Crucial RAM and a 160GB HD. There's no way that Safari, iPhoto and Garageband open that fast. You've already opened them and quitted them before this test. That means the instructions for them are already loaded into the RAM, ready to go if you re-open them - the "Inactive" part in Activity Monitor. You should restart, then try the test again with them opening for the first time.
well thats not really the point of this test now is it? i though the point of it was to show that it could run all of those apps at the same time and not bog down at all
Fair enough. I ran my own test where I ran practically all my apps after a restart, and the macbook coped very well. I'm pretty sure I ran even more apps than the guy in this vid.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Apple, and I'm a fanboy through-and-through lol - but for the sake of your poor wallet, DO NOT BUY APPLE RAM! They charge exorbitant amounts of money for RAM. The RAM they use is only stuff like Hynix. Buy Crucial - it's cheaper, and is great RAM. Using it atm :D
how come my brand new macbook 2.4 penryn 2 gb doesn't boot up as fast nor seem to open the programs that fast. Did you tinker around with some settings? Mines boots in about 39
I have XP on bootcamp, it works seemlessly except for the fact that I have to remember to have an external mouse, no right button. It boots us as fast as the mac, but I got an 80GB HD since I am planning to getting a 17" pro eventually (I had the 17" powerbook before). I allocated 20GB for XP, leaving 60 for OSX, if you want "full" use of both O/S make sure you have a big HD
geting a refurbished macbook makes no sense. you could get a brand new macbook for 999 with the education discount and plus the macbooks just got updated
BOys1926- When I bought my computer it was selling for $1499 from Apple. The base model, at $1099 (not $999 as you're stating), was a 1.83GHz/80GB/1GB. I paid *less* for a computer with a faster processor and almost twice the HD capacity.
kman19941994- It depends on what you mean by "fast". The 2.2GHz will be quicker if you're timing the 2 machines converting audio files or encoding video in iMovie...but a 2.0GHz with 2GB of RAM with be snappier for every day use and handle multiple simultaneous tasks with ease. It will handle big programs better as well. RAM is cheap, and is the easiest way to get the computer to perform its best. 2.2GHz is a faster machine...upgrade that one to 2GB or 4GB, and it'll be faster then mine!
Okay I have a question here guys, I am big on Macs but I have ONE question. I have 2GB of RAM in my black macbook. I have heard that 2GB is the highest the macbook can go. I have the 1st generation one. The one that first came out. I hear people saying I can put up to 3GB of RAM but Apple and other people tell me it only supports the max of 2GB
True but white gets visible dirt in the crevices easily. I had this problem with my Nintendo DS, and my Samsung P2. It's very difficult to get the dirt out. The Macbook Pro is definitely the most elite looking.
I did the same thing with my 2 GB 2.16 GHz MacBook... With 19 applications running, including Microsoft Office, which uses a bit more memory since it's PowerPC-based. I still had over 600 MB free (and I had Norton antivirus running, too).
benjaminwill- All Macbooks are Intel-based. The iBooks and Powerbooks were the last Apple notebooks to use the PPC chips. Good to hear you're having similar experiences though.
I know that all MacBooks are Intel-based, but the Microsoft Office Suite is PowerPC-based and has to use Rosetta software to work on Intel machines. So Microsoft applications use more RAM than Intel programs (like iWork 08).

Yes, it definitely has a slot to put DVD's in. It comes loaded with a superdrive, which reads and burns both CD's and DVD's.

the black does not have a glossy finish. so when you look at it, it looks dull. the white is glossy and has more of a cleaner/ more expensive look.
